As winter approaches, Rome is preparing another response to attacks that have strained Ukraine’s civilian infrastructure and energy system.
Italy will continue providing humanitarian support to Ukraine during the winter period and will supply additional generators. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni made the announcement during a meeting of the Coalition of the Willing leaders.
The Italian government’s website stated that Giorgia Meloni joined the discussion via video link. The meeting was held to mark the 35th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence.
In her address, she conveyed greetings from the Italian government to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the Ukrainian people. Meloni also reaffirmed Rome’s unwavering position in support of Ukraine’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity.

The Italian prime minister expressed sympathy over the consequences of Russia’s ongoing attacks on Ukraine’s civilian infrastructure. She stressed that assistance ahead of winter should strengthen the population’s resilience and support the operation of the power grid.

Sanctions and efforts for peace
During the meeting, the leaders of the Coalition of the Willing discussed strengthening sanctions pressure and measures aimed at preventing the circumvention of restrictions. In their view, this would help increase pressure on Moscow’s war machine.
Giorgia Meloni confirmed Italy’s readiness to work with international partners to advance negotiations aimed at achieving a just and lasting peace.
The previous in-person meeting of the Coalition of the Willing took place in Paris on July 13. At the time, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the coalition’s next meeting would be held in Ukraine.
