Mark Zuckerberg has added another sprawling home to his real estate portfolio: a Gothic-style castle in Ireland that’s nearly 200 years old.
In a statement to PEOPLE, a spokesperson for the Meta CEO, 42, confirmed he and his wife, Dr. Priscilla Chan, 41, purchased Strancally Castle, a storied estate overlooking the River Blackwater in Waterford.
“Mark and his family are excited to continue caring for this historic home and look forward to spending time in Ireland, where Meta maintains its international headquarters,” Zuckerberg’s spokesperson, Brian Baker, said in a statement.
The tech company has its international headquarters in Dublin and employs approximately 1,500 people in Ireland, per the spokesperson, who noted that Zuckerberg and Chan, who share three daughters, have been considering buying real estate in Ireland for some time.

According to The Irish Times, the property could be worth up to $35 million and is believed to have 11 bedrooms. It was most recently owned by Michael Alen-Buckley, co-founder of private investment firm RAB Capital, and his wife Giancarla, who is part of the family behind the luxury Rocco Forte Hotels group.
After acquiring the estate 25 years ago, the couple made several renovations to the historic home, some of which are believed to include an indoor swimming pool, the outlet reported, citing planning documents.
Of their former longtime home, the couple told The New York Times that they are “grateful for the opportunity we have been given to save and restore Strancally Castle,” adding, “We are delighted that Mark and his family intend to build on our stewardship by continuing to invest in maintaining and enhancing the property and grounds as their home.”
The castle was reportedly built around 1830 for John Keily, a former member of Parliament, and it has since remained in private hands.

Thus, the public hasn’t seen much of the inside. It has been described as having “a lavish scale; it took a brisk walk of 4½ minutes to reach the dining room from the kitchen,” The Times reports, citing an entry about Mr. Keily on “The History of Parliament” website.
It’s not clear how Zuckerberg and his family will use the property or how much time they plan on spending in Ireland.

Most recently, Zuckerberg and Chan purchased a $170 million property in Miami’s exclusive Indian Creek community, PEOPLE reported in March.
That under-construction mansion will reportedly be spread out across 30,000 square feet and feature amenities like a gym, hair salon, massage room, a library with a secret passageway, a party room and a 1,500-gallon aquarium. Outside, the property will boast a private, in-ground, heated pool, a garden, a private dock and 200 feet of waterfront.
