In the episode of the “Civilek” podcast released on Wednesday, the FIDESZ parliamentary group leader accused the TISZA government of undermining the foundations of democratic change and cracking down on a viable opposition alternative. János Bóka said that FIDESZ Chairman Viktor Orbán would continue to play a key role on the conservative, centrist political side in the future.
In the podcast produced by the Civil Solidarity Forum Movement (CÖF), the politician accused the TISZA Party of running a “campaign of lies” before the elections and now operating a “government of lies.” He explained that the TISZA Party’s communication strategy is based on the desire to “win every day”; therefore, its message has neither lasting impact nor consequences, and each day and each statement stands on its own. As long as this “bubble” can be maintained, this system remains functional, he added.
János Bóka did not deny that the TISZA Party—just as FIDESZ-KDNP had done before it—had the right to exercise its two-thirds majority; however, in his view, TISZA had engaged in “lawmaking outside the constitutional framework,” which was unacceptable.
Regarding the term limits for the prime minister and members of parliament, he said:
The government undermines the foundations of democratic alternation when the majority uses legislation to dictate who is allowed to run against it in elections.
Even TISZA supporters themselves recognize that the current “Facebook government” will soon lead to serious problems and that their chances of political survival will diminish significantly from that point on. That is why the governing party is taking “giant strides” toward ensuring, by that time, through legal, police, administrative, and judicial means, that there is no viable opposition alternative on the other side, he added.
At the same time, he emphasized that in the 2030 election, people can decide whether what began in 2026 should continue or whether there should be something different. The FIDESZ parliamentary group leader has made it his mission to ensure that
the civic, conservative, right-wing alternative comes across as appealing and enters the 2030 election with good prospects for success.
Viktor Orbán has been a defining figure in this community over the past decades and remains so today, and that will continue to be the case in the future, he emphasized. The political and innovative abilities of the FIDESZ chairman, as well as the fact that he “listens to and understands” the visions we Hungarians have for our country’s future, are not a burden but an asset to the party, said the parliamentary group leader.
He acknowledged that, under the current constitutional framework, Viktor Orbán cannot run for a seat in Parliament in the 2030 elections nor be elected prime minister, but he promised:
should FIDESZ be given the mandate to change these rules, this would “open up further possibilities.”
János Bóka—who served as Minister for EU Affairs in the previous government—accused the TISZA government, in connection with the repatriation of EU funds, of having entered into an agreement whereby
the funds merely “flow through Hungary” but actually end up with foreign interest groups for specific purposes.
The “Civilek” podcast is produced by the nonprofit foundation “Civil Union Public Benefit Foundation,” founded in 2009, which organized several “peace marches” in support of the FIDESZ-KDNP government between 2012 and 2026.
