Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, warned Sunday that Democrats would impeach President Donald Trump for a third time if they capture control of the House in November’s midterm elections.
Jordan, speaking on New York’s WABC radio show “The Cats Roundtable” with John Catsimatidis, predicted Democrats would use congressional oversight powers to target Trump, his administration, and others aligned with the president.
“They say they’re not going to, but we know they will — they’ll do a third impeachment of President Trump,” Jordan said. “But that’s just part of it. They’re going to investigate the first family, they’re going to investigate Cabinet secretaries.”
Jordan specifically pointed to Rep. Jamie Raskin, D-Md., the top Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee, seeking to impeach FBI Director Kash Patel, Attorney General Todd Blanche, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and War Secretary Pete Hegseth.
“And then they’ll also, I think, go after people in the private sector,” Jordan said, arguing that Democrats could accuse businesses that supported the Trump inauguration of wrongdoing.
Jordan also predicted that Democrats could target the eventual 2028 Republican presidential nominee and running mate with what he described as “nonstop weaponized investigations.
“Not for legitimate oversight, but to just go after your political opponents,” he said.
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., has declined to rule out another Trump impeachment.
Jeffries has said Raskin and Rep. Robert Garcia, D-Calif., the top Democrat on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, would take leading roles in congressional investigations if Democrats win the majority.
Trump also has repeatedly warned Republicans that losing the House could expose him to another impeachment.
Democrats impeached Trump twice during his first term, first in December 2019 over his dealings with Ukraine and again in January 2021 on a charge of incitement of insurrection following the Jan. 6 Capitol protest. The Senate acquitted Trump in both cases.
