Mayor of New York City Zohran Mamdani has taken sides in the ongoing feud between hip-hop stars Nicki Minaj and Cardi B.
When asked about whether he was team Nicki, 43, or Cardi, 33, during a recent interview, Zohran, 34, responded, “Cardi B […] We’re already teaming up with Cardi B to put out the word about universal childcare.” After Zohran’s Cardi comment made it to X, formerly known as Twitter, several on the social media platform reacted to his remark.
“Why would he say Nicki Minaj, who has aligned herself with MAGA,” one X user posted. Another added, “Nicki really destroyed her career by herself and we can only cheers Cardi for always standing for herself.”

Nicki lost many fans and received much backlash ever since she began aligning herself with MAGA last year.
The Grammy-nominated rhymer sparked much criticism when she appeared alongside right-wing activist Charlie Kirk’s widow, Erika Kirk, 37, at a Turning Point USA event. At the event, the Super Bass performer praised President Donald Trump, 79, and his Vice President JD Vance, 41.

Nicki outraged so many by showing support for MAGA that a petition to have her deported was launched against her. The Massive Attack entertainer moved to New York City from Trinidad and Tobago with her family at the age of 5.
Despite being slammed, Nicki continued to support Trump. While at a political appearance with Trump in January 2026, she said, “Well, I don’t know what to say, but what I will say is that I am the President’s Number one fan, and that’s not going to change. And the hate, or what people have to say it does not affect me at all. It actually motivates me to support him more. And it’s going to motivate all of us to support him more.”
Nicki continued at the time, “We’re not going to let them get away with bullying him and you know the smear campaigns, it’s not going to work, okay? He has a lot of force behind him and god is protecting him. Amen.”

Zohran’s outward support of Cardi extends beyond their mutual opposition to Trump, who Zohran has admitted he disagrees with heavily concerning politics and policies, as he plans to use her platform to bring awareness to the healthcare crisis in their hometown. Although Zohran came to NYC as a child, Cardi was born and raised there.
“By leveraging Cardi B’s massive platform, the initiative aims to bring national attention to affordable childcare access, merging hip hop culture with vital legislative advocacy in New York,” according to Source magazine.
