Governor Gavin Newsom (D-CA) slammed President Donald Trump on Thursday for causing Americans to spend billions in additional costs at the pump as fuel continues to hover around the $4-mark.
A Trump Win?
Taking to the social media platform X, Newsom’s official Press Office handle delivered sharp criticism of Trump. “Americans have paid $10.53 billion more for gas nationwide,” the post said, adding that states like Idaho, Utah, Kentucky and Arizona had seen the steepest increases in fuel prices. “TRUMP WIN?” the post said.

While the press office did not specify where the $10.53 billion figure came from, GasBuddy analyst Patrick De Haan had earlier shared that rising fuel costs have resulted in Americans paying over $10 billion in excess at the pumps. According to data from the American Automobile Association (AAA), the national average price of a gallon of gas on Thursday was $4.093, with gas costing $5.864/gallon in California.

JB Pritzker Criticizes Trump
Governor Jay Robert ‘JB’ Pritzker (D-IL) criticized Trump as gas prices soared. “Donald Trump thinks he can gaslight hard-working Americans into believing today’s gas prices are “not very high,” he said, quoting a video of Trump saying that gas prices weren’t very high.

Elizabeth Warren Criticizes Trump, Sean Duffy Hits Out
Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass) slammed the Trump administration, sharing that Americans had paid over $8.4 billion more at the gas pump because of the war in Iran.
Trump’s Transportation Secretary, Sean Duffy, called Newsom a “climate alarmist” for his opposition to the Sable Offshore Corp‘s pipeline, as well as shared the progress of the rig, which is located off the coast of Santa Barbara, California.
However, concerns have been raised about the pipeline by officials as well as environmental groups. The pipeline is touted to supply over 60,000 barrels of oil a day, after a 2015 oil spill had led to its closure.
