Teacher fired after post about Trump assassination attempt

  • 2026-04-28

CINCINNATI (WXIX/Gray News) – An Ohio teacher was fired after posting a message on social media about President Donald Trump following a shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner that federal officials are calling an attempted assassination.

Corrine Baum was instructing young students at BrightPath Bridgetown Child Care Center as of Sunday. The school terminated her after discovering a social media post in which she appeared disappointed that Trump was not injured or killed.

Social media post

In a 20-second video posted on social media, Baum said, “There’s a few creators on here saying like Friday or yesterday could have been the day. And then I wake up to that news, but not THAT news.”

Baum was reacting to the shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington Saturday night. The FBI said 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen of California rushed a security checkpoint armed with a shotgun, handgun and knives, and exchanged gunfire with law enforcement.

Trump, along with the first lady, Vice President JD Vance and many Cabinet secretaries, attended the dinner.

In her social media post, Baum let out a sigh before saying, “We’re going to have to pay really close attention to what they’re actually trying to distract us from.”

BrightPath response

BrightPath has 12 preschool and day care centers in the Tri-State region. According to its website, the organization is a trusted early learning and child care provider as well as a world-class and innovative provider of early childhood education.

It is unclear what specific role Baum had at the Bridgetown location.

BrightPath’s corporate office released a statement that reads, “Our organization does not tolerate and explicitly condemns any calls for violence. The comments made online by this individual are deeply inconsistent with our values. The individual in question has been terminated.”

A woman reached at a cell number linked to Baum said she was a friend and that Baum was not interested in commenting.

The woman said, “She is going through a difficult time right now and is very distraught.”

No one answered the door at a home in Bridgetown that public records show as Baum’s address.
