ANKENY, Iowa (Gray Media Iowa State Capitol Bureau) – U.S. Senate Majority Leader John Thune came to Iowa on Friday to support Congresswoman Ashley Hinson and her run for U.S. Senate.
The two Republicans assembled a group of people to show how they say the One Big Beautiful Bill Act helped them to save money.
Thune said Hinson, who supported the changes through the federal legislation, would be a key ally if she wins her race for the U.S. Senate.
“Iowa as is usually the case in the political season kind of gets to be ground zero so a lot of attention will be paid to your state and the various races,” Thune said. “But we are excited about Ashley’s candidacy for the Senate.”
The campaign event comes at a time that Americans are dealing with higher energy costs and inflation.
Ginny Mitchell said the One Big Beautiful Bill Act helps her as an Uber driver and said she got $3,600 back from her tax return this year.
“I was afraid that I was gonna have to pay in this year with the change in employment and different jobs,” Mitchell said. “We got $3,600 back for federal taxes and that was a huge surprise and also a big relief.”
Hinson has a Republican primary competitor, Jim Carlin, a former state senator from Sioux City.
The two face off in the primary election on June 2.
