The 2026 Met Gala Celebrating “Costume Art” - Inside

Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez Bezos reportedly spent $10 million to sponsor this year’s Met Gala. For that kind of money, it turns out you can skip any of the parts that you don’t want to do. While Sánchez Bezos walked the carpet in her John Singer Sargent–inspired Schiaparelli gown, the Amazon founder was nowhere to be found. Bezos was fully MIA until later in the evening, when he was photographed inside the gala with his sister-in-law Elena Sánchez Blair. Sneaking in through the back is certainly one way to attend the party you are ostensibly throwing.

Since he successfully avoided protesters and most of the paparazzi, this is the only photo we have so far of Bezos’s look. Unsurprisingly, he didn’t even attempt to do anything with the “Fashion Is Art” dress code, opting instead for the most normal tuxedo of all time. The most out-there part of his whole look is his beard, which, when paired with the tux, sort of makes him look like the kind of guy who tries to poison James Bond.

Next year, I think Bezos should have to walk the carpet like everyone else and be on theme. Maybe people would like him if he showed up in an out-there look that perfectly encapsulated the year’s theme. Probably not, but would it kill him to try even a little bit?
