Keir and Victoria Starmer have been together for nearly 20 years.
The longtime couple met while working as lawyers and married in 2007, The Sunday Times reported. In the years following, Keir and Victoria welcomed a son and a daughter, whose names have never been publicly shared.
“I don’t want to overly talk about my children because I don’t want to bring them into this — that’s the very thing I’ve been trying not to do,” the British prime minister told reporters while campaigning in July 2024, per The Independent. He was appointed by King Charles later that month.
Keir added, “They’re understandably at an age where this is very impactful on them, which is why I’ve been so fiercely protective of them for many years now and will continue to try to be so.”
The British politician has also kept his wife largely out of the spotlight. He told The Sunday Times in June 2024 that the pair had agreed Victoria wouldn’t do interviews, and she would continue working in occupational health after his appointment as prime minister.
Most recently, Keir has faced calls to resign from his Labour Party lawmakers amid turmoil within his political party.

Raised just outside of London, Victoria studied law and sociology at Cardiff University, per The Guardian.
Though she became a lawyer after graduating, she later pivoted to occupational health work for the National Health Service (NHS).
She met Keir through work
The pair met while they were both working as lawyers. Keir told British Voguein July 2024 that he quizzed her about documents she had prepared for court, suggesting they may have been incorrect.
When she was hanging up the phone, Keir overheard her say, “Who the f— does he think he is?”
“You might think ‘not the best of starts,’ but it was absolutely classic Vic,” he said. “Very sassy, very down-to-earth, no nonsense from anyone — including from me.”

Victoria and Keir have two children
The couple share two kids. They welcomed a son around 2009 and a daughter around 2011, both of whom they have kept out of the public eye.
“It’s hard for them, really hard,” Keir told The Sunday Times. “I worry about what the future holds for them because they’re at an impactful age.”

Though Keir has described his wife as “grounded” and “streetwise,” he has also been open about how their leap into public life has affected her.
“I’m not going to pretend that it’s easy for her, because it isn’t,” the prime minister told The Sunday Times. “She wants to get on with her life. She doesn’t want to push herself into the limelight.”
To maintain some privacy, Keir said they agreed not to put their kids’ names “in the public domain” and that Victoria will do no interviews.
He added, “It is a massive intrusion when you have media outside the house. It is inhibiting on the whole family. That does impact on her and will do even more if we’re privileged enough to get it over the line.”
