President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and President of Türkiye Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held formal talks in Astana during Erdoğan’s state visit to the Central Asian nation.

Tokayev warmly welcomed the Turkish leader, while Erdoğan expressed gratitude for the hospitality extended by the Kazakh side, Akorda reports.

The official welcoming ceremony took place at the Palace of Independence in the Kazakh capital, where Erdoğan was received with full state honors. His motorcade traveled through streets decorated with the national flags of Türkiye and Kazakhstan before arriving at the venue.

Following the arrival ceremony, a military band performed the national anthems of both countries, after which Erdoğan inspected the honor guard. The two presidents then introduced their respective delegations and posed for official photographs ahead of their one-on-one meeting.

The leaders greeted each other in keeping with diplomatic tradition, while an honor guard was lined up in the ceremonial hall to mark the visit of the distinguished guest.

After the official ceremony concluded, formal negotiations between Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Recep Tayyip Erdoğan commenced in a restricted format.

Later in the day, Erdoğan and Tokayev are expected to co-chair the sixth meeting of the Türkiye–Kazakhstan High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council. The two leaders are also scheduled to oversee the signing of bilateral agreements and hold a joint press conference.

Several senior Turkish officials accompanied Erdoğan during the visit, including Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Defence Minister Yaşar Güler, Trade Minister Ömer Bolat, and Presidential Communications Director Burhanettin Duran.

Recep Tayyip Erdoğan arrived in Kazakhstan on May 13 for an official state visit aimed at strengthening political, economic, and regional cooperation between Ankara and Astana.
