Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday held bilateral talks with Denmark’s Acting Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen in Oslo on the sidelines of the 3rd India-Nordic Summit, with both leaders reaffirming their commitment to strengthening the India-Denmark Green Strategic Partnership.
The two leaders reviewed the progress achieved under the bilateral framework and expressed satisfaction over expanding cooperation in sustainability, climate action and green transition initiatives. The partnership, launched in 2020, has emerged as a key pillar of India-Denmark relations, focusing on renewable energy, environmental collaboration and sustainable development.
During the meeting, both sides agreed to deepen engagement in emerging technologies, advanced communications, research collaboration, start-up ecosystems and academic exchanges. The discussions also covered strategic sectors including defence cooperation and artificial intelligence.
Prime Minister Modi invited Danish companies to expand their presence in India and explore opportunities in GIFT City, India’s international financial and technology hub in Gujarat.
Highlighting India’s fast-growing green economy ambitions, Prime Minister Modi said India remains ready to welcome Danish technologies and expertise for sustainable and climate-friendly solutions across sectors.
Water management and river-cleaning technologies also featured prominently during the discussions. The leaders noted the successful collaboration under the Smart Laboratory on Clean Rivers initiative in Varanasi, a tripartite partnership involving the Government of India, the Government of Denmark and Indian Institute of Technology – Banaras Hindu University.
The initiative focuses on developing innovative water and river-cleaning technologies and is regarded as a model for Indo-Danish cooperation in environmental sustainability.
The two sides additionally discussed mobility partnerships and broader people-to-people engagement aimed at strengthening workforce mobility and bilateral exchanges.
Apart from bilateral cooperation, the leaders exchanged views on regional and global developments of mutual interest. Prime Minister Modi also conveyed his best wishes for Denmark’s ongoing tenure as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council.
The meeting underscored the growing strategic alignment between India and Denmark as both countries seek to strengthen cooperation across sustainability, technology and innovation-driven sectors.
