JPMorgan, Goldman CEOs Hold Separate Talks with NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani

Two of Wall Street’s top executives met with New York City’s mayor on Monday as part of a broader outreach effort by the new administration. According to a statement from the mayor’s office, JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon and Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon each held separate discussions with Mayor Zohran Mamdani.

The mayor, a 34-year-old social democrat, met with Dimon at noon Monday at JPMorgan’s midtown Manhattan headquarters. The mayor’s office described the conversation as genial, highlighting a shared love of New York City and a mutual interest in ensuring all New Yorkers can thrive. Dimon raised topics including cutting government waste, streamlining permits for housing and infrastructure developers, and strengthening the city’s economy. Sources familiar with the meeting characterized it as good and constructive.

Later Monday afternoon, Solomon met with Mamdani at Gracie Mansion, the mayor’s residence. Their discussion covered Goldman Sachs’ investments in affordable housing and small businesses, as well as New York’s broader financial health and family-supporting policies, according to the mayor’s office.

These meetings are the latest in a series the mayor has held with prominent Wall Street figures. Others who have met with him recently include Blackstone COO Jon Gray and Bank of America CEO Brian Moynihan. Wall Street company earnings and worker bonuses are a key driver of New York City’s tax revenue.

Last week, Mamdani unveiled a $124.7 billion budget that he said would close the city’s $12 billion deficit over two years, though the majority of the shortfall is being addressed by $7.6 billion in aid from New York state.

When Mamdani won the mayoral election, concerns on Wall Street about higher taxes quickly emerged. Until recently, the city’s financial leaders had maintained a notably diplomatic posture. That changed last month when Mamdani’s team released a video celebrating a taxation plan that singled out the $238 million midtown Manhattan penthouse of Citadel chief Ken Griffin. Citadel quickly responded, highlighting Griffin’s philanthropic efforts in the city and suggesting the firm could reconsider a $6 billion skyscraper project it is redeveloping in midtown Manhattan, according to an internal Citadel memo from COO Gerald Beeson.
