WALTON COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) – On Wednesday, Lulu’s Law passed in the U.S. House and is now heading to President Trump’s desk to be signed.
Lulu Gribbon posted the news on her Instagram, saying she couldn’t be prouder of this moment.
Almost two years ago, Gribbon was attacked by a shark in Walton County while visiting the area on vacation. Another shark attack had happened the same day, just miles away from her location.
Her law will authorize local, state, tribal, and federal government authorities to quickly deploy geofenced warnings via the Wireless Emergency Alert System to the public if a shark has attacked someone.
The bipartisan legislation was first introduced in the Senate in July of 2024 and passed in July of 2025.
U.S. Senator Katie Britt represents Alabama and has supported the legislation from the start.
“I’m thrilled that Lulu’s Law has passed the House with overwhelming support after passing the Senate last July, and I’m especially thankful to Representative Gary Palmer who helped usher this important legislation through the House Energy and Commerce Committee and to the House floor for a full vote. After working to get this law passed for over a year, I’m proud we were able to deliver in honor of Lulu’s story, which is a tale of incredible courage and perseverance. Lulu’s Law will soon be signed into federal statute and as a result, families and beachgoers will be safer. This bipartisan legislation is an incredible example of Congress at its very best, and I couldn’t be prouder to have led this for Lulu and our nation.”
In a press release on Senator Britt’s website, Lulu’s parents say they are grateful to their representatives who helped get the legislation passed.
