The White House tried to quash rumors that President Donald Trump is being treated at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center as speculation over his health exploded online Saturday.

The Republican president’s health has been a major focal point of his second term, with Americans scrutinizing his many public blunders, apparent physical limitations, and reported medical conditions. Rumors of the visit follow the White House’s announcement at 11:08 a.m. on Saturday that the president will not be making any public appearances for the rest of the day. It’s an unusual move for President Trump as he typically visits Mar-a-Lago to golf on weekends.

Trump’s last visit to the center was in October when he reportedly got an MRI scan. “I did. I got an MRI. It was perfect,” the president told reporters on board Air Force One at the time.

Trump, one of the oldest presidents in U.S. history at 79, did not explain why he underwent the scan, which may be used to look for a variety of problems. “The doctor said [it] was some of the best reports, for the age, they’ve ever seen,” Trump added.

Trump advised reporters to “ask the doctors” when pressed on why he had the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

Trump’s appointment was a “scheduled follow-up evaluation as part of his ongoing health maintenance plan and included advanced imaging, laboratory testing, and preventative health assessments,” according to presidential physician Dr. Sean Barbabella.

According to Dr. Barbabella, the president “continues to demonstrate excellent overall health.” The U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) reports that MRI scans are particularly helpful for examining soft tissues, as they use powerful magnetic fields to produce images of a patient’s internal organs.

The White House declared in 2025 that Trump had been diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency. According to Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, Trump’s doctor diagnosed him with the ailment when he detected swelling in his legs.

Blood pools in the lower limbs due to chronic venous insufficiency, which happens when leg veins prevent blood from returning to the heart. According to a comment from Barbabella, it is “benign and common” in older people.

Additionally, Trump has previously been seen wearing cosmetic patches on the back of his hand. According to the White House, the bruising is caused by repeated handshaking and has nothing to do with the vein disease.
