SAN FRANCISCO\/SEOUL: OpenAI is planning its biggest ChatGPT overhaul yet, aiming to turn it into a \u201csuperapp\u201d with coding tools and AI agents to boost revenue ahead of a potential stock market listing, the Financial Times reported on Sunday. The changes are part of a broader reorganization at OpenAI, as it shifts resources to target lucrative enterprise clients and intensify competition with rival Anthropic, the report said, citing more than a dozen current and former employees.<\/p>\n
Reuters could not immediately verify the report. OpenAI did not immediately respond to Reuters\u2019 request for comment. The overhaul will give greater prominence and resources to OpenAI\u2019s coding product Codex and is set to roll out in the coming weeks, initially appearing as updates to ChatGPT\u2019s website and mobile apps, the FT said.<\/p>\n
To drive uptake, OpenAI is redesigning ChatGPT\u2019s interface with new prompts and features steering users toward coding tools, image generation and partner services such as Canva and Booking.com, the report added. Most Codex users are paying customers, while 2 million businesses account for about 40 percent of OpenAI\u2019s revenue, FT said, adding that the company expects that share to rise to 50 percent by year-end. ChatGPT serves more than 900 million weekly active users, OpenAI said earlier this year, adding that it had surpassed 50 million consumer subscribers.<\/p>\n
Reuters reported in May that OpenAI was preparing a confidential US IPO filing in the coming weeks. However, CEO Sam Altman has said the company is not focused on timing and will go public when it makes sense.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Nvidia and South Korea\u2019s SK are expected to announce a plan for cooperation between the two companies on Monday, with the boss of the US chipmaker saying that the ongoing memory shortage would persist for \u201cquite a few years\u201d.<\/p>\n
A spokesperson for SK Hynix said group chairman Chey Tae-won and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang plan to brief media about the plan on Monday morning, confirming a report by Newsis. Huang separately said that Nvidia could make announcements with SK on Monday.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re working across many industries from AI supercomputers to CPUs to new PCs and robotics. So we are here to plan and maybe tomorrow we have some announcements,\u201d he told reporters, without elaborating further. He also said that he did not see an end to memory shortages.<\/p>\n
