Currently, conscription regulations require every able-bodied male aged 18 to 25 to register with the Selective Service within 30 days of turning 18. Failure to register could result in a felony charge, denial of state-based student loans and grant programs in 31 states, denial of federal job training, a federal job, or a delay in U.S. citizenship proceedings for immigrants, with a list showing which jobs are deemed ‘too vital’ for any WW3 draft.<\/a><\/p>\n

“If you failed to register prior to reaching age 26, and are now being denied eligibility for federal or state benefits due to your failure to register, you can explain to the official handling your case (for example, HR Specialist) the reasons for your failure to register with Selective Service,” the Selective Service website states. “The burden of proof is on the person seeking the denied right or benefit.” It comes after a chilling map emerged revealing the 12 safest places to find refuge if WW3<\/a> erupts<\/a>.<\/p>\n

After the Vietnam War, the draft was abolished, but was later reinstated by President Jimmy Carter in the 1980s. Both of the president’s eldest children are currently in their late and early 40s, which, for now, would prevent them from being conscripted should the military decide to begin a draft.<\/p>\n

Under current regulations, both Congress and the president would have to agree to institute the draft. Should it be agreed upon, the Selective Service System would conduct a lottery in order to determine which young men would be drafted first.<\/p>\n

The lottery would establish the priority of those birthdates in the selected category. Those turning 20 would be the first in line to be called for military service.<\/p>\n

“Because of the enormous impact of this lottery, it would be conducted publicly, with full coverage by the media,” the site notes. “Accredited observers from public interest groups will have full access to observe the proceedings.”<\/p>\n

Those selected would then undergo several mental, physical, and moral fitness examinations before being labeled as deferred, exempted from military service, or inducted into the Armed Forces.<\/p>\n

Can the draft be extended to include those over 26? <\/p>\n

The short answer to the question is yes. However, the longer answer includes a national emergency and Congress drafting new legislation and then voting on it. It was reported that women are currently exempt from the draft, despite still being able to serve in the armed forces.<\/p>\n

In 2021, the U.S. government proposed a bill that would include women, but it was swiftly killed. Senator Ted Cruz of Texas, said in November 2021, that women should not be \u201cput into the situation where they are forced to engage in hand-to-hand combat with a man, where they would face significant challenges.\u201d<\/p>\n

“There are differences between men and women,” he added.<\/p>\n
