CNN\u2019s\u00a0Kara Swisher said she\u2019ll depart CNN as soon as she can if the \u201cincompetent\u201d Ellison family successfully acquires the network\u2019s parent company, Warner Bros. Discovery.<\/p>\n
David Ellison is the CEO and owner of Paramount Skydance, which was formerly just Skydance Media before its multibillion-dollar acquisition<\/a> of Paramount Global. He is also the son of pro-Trump<\/a> tech mogul Larry Ellison.<\/p>\n Ellison\u2019s combined company, Paramount Skydance, secured DOJ approval<\/a> on June 12 for an $111 billion acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, the parent company of multiple platforms and networks, including CNN and HBO Max.<\/p>\n However,\u00a0Politico\u00a0reported<\/a> the merger could still face legal scrutiny as California Attorney General Rob Bonta (D) continues to investigate the deal and could opt to sue and block it from happening, despite DOJ approval.<\/p>\n Swisher is a longstanding critic of the Ellisons and vowed to leave<\/a> CNN, pending approval of the acquisition, back in March during an event at Syracuse University. She doubled down on that statement in a new episode of her Pivot\u00a0podcast with co-host\u00a0Scott Galloway.<\/p>\n \u201cWith the CNN thing, well you know my feelings on that,\u201d she told him before adding, \u201cI\u2019m leaving as soon as I can.\u201d<\/p>\n Before she could switch topics, Galloway clarified, \u201cSo, you\u2019re out? You\u2019re out of CNN?\u201d apparently suspicious because Swisher had been trying to talk him into \u201cdoing s**t at CNN for months.\u201d<\/p>\n Swisher insisted that was prior to the prospective Ellison acquisition.<\/p>\n \u201cLet me try to outline it: I don\u2019t want to work for the Ellisons, and I don\u2019t want to work for their handpicked minions because I think they\u2019re incompetent,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n She continued:<\/p>\n I just don\u2019t see any way that these people make good decisions and I don\u2019t trust them. That\u2019s it. They just\u2026 I just don\u2019t, I don\u2019t want to, I don\u2019t want to work for tech people. \u2026 I\u2019m just not staying \u2026 there\u2019s lots of places to go. Like you, I think TV is great but it\u2019s not that great to put up with this s**t. \u2026 Anyways, there\u2019s lot of other options, and I\u2019m under contract with them until the end of the year and I\u2019m hoping they\u2019ll let me out early because I don\u2019t want to affiliate with them.
