House Speaker Mike Johnson on Friday tried to issue a warning about what\u2019s at stake if Democrats win control of Congress in the November midterms\u2014an outcome<\/a> that at this point is more likely than not<\/a>.<\/p>\n

But his warning was inadvertently a great case for why voters should hand Democrats the reins.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf we were to lose the midterms, heaven forbid, \u2026 y\u2019all, impeachment\u2019s not even the biggest concern,\u201d Johnson said<\/a> Friday at the right-wing Faith & Freedom Coalition\u2019s annual Road to Majority Conference<\/a>. \u201cThey will turn every committee of Congress into an investigative body, and they\u2019ll go after the president\u2019s family, the Cabinet, his donors and friends\u2014half of you in this room will be targeted.\u201d<\/p>\n

Don\u2019t threaten us with a good time, Mike.<\/p>\n

In all honesty, this is an affirmative argument for voters to choose Democrats this fall.<\/p>\n

Majorities of voters<\/a>\u2014including many in Trump\u2019s MAGA base\u2014want accountability<\/a> for Trump and his wealthy friends over their ties to now-deceased sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Voters feel Trump has been hiding evidence<\/a> of Epstein\u2019s crimes. And Republicans are helping him, undertaking a bullshit investigation that makes it look like they\u2019re doing something when, in actuality, they are just running cover<\/a> for their Dear Leader.<\/p>\n

Americans also are unsupportive<\/a> of Trump\u2019s construction projects across the nation\u2019s capital<\/a>, including the White House ballroom<\/a> and the unsightly gigantic arch<\/a> he wants that will obscure views from Arlington National Cemetery. And so they would likely support probes into how much these ridiculous projects<\/a> are costing taxpayers, which Democrats are vowing to conduct<\/a> if they are given control of Congress.<\/p>\n

Investigations into Trump\u2019s unpopular<\/a> Cabinet officials<\/a> are also likely to be popular, as they have so far evaded accountability<\/a> for their bad behavior<\/a> and destructive actions<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Indeed, Democrats were already capitalizing on Johnson\u2019s comment.<\/p>\n

\u201cGood point,\u201d Democratic strategist Dan Pfeiffer wrote<\/a> in a post on X, regarding Johnson\u2019s remark. \u201cIf you think politicians, billionaires, elites, and members of the Epstein Class should be able to do whatever they want without any accountability, vote Republican this Fall.\u201d<\/p>\n
