U.S. President Donald Trump said Wednesday that the U.S. will give a license for its Patriot air defense systems to be made overseas for Ukraine to counter Russian missile attacks, a huge coup for Ukraine, which has badly needed the technology in the war now in its fifth year.<\/p>\n

Trump made the announcement as he met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the NATO summit in Turkey, praising him as having \u201cdone an amazing job\u201d and \u201cbeen very effective\u201d in the war.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the summit a day after Trump again expressed a desire for the U.S. to control Greenland, Denmark\u2019s Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said, \u201cGreenland is of course not for sale.\u201d<\/p>\n

On Wednesday, however, Trump suggested he hadn\u2019t made up his mind concerning the F-35s.<\/p>\n
Erdogan, meanwhile, also renewed Turkey\u2019s long-standing offer to mediate between Ukraine and Russia for an end to the war.<\/p>\n

The retaliatory strikes against Iran were conducted by Air Force and Navy fighter jets in the region and lasted about four hours, a U.S. official confirmed Wednesday.<\/p>\n

The president played down the risks that an intensifying war with Iran could drive up oil prices, claiming that the world has an \u201coil glut.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThis will end very quickly,\u201d Trump said. \u201cWe have an oil glut right now, because we got all those boats out of the strait, and it\u2019s going to drop, and I predicted everything.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump spoke as U.S. oil futures topped $75 a barrel in Wednesday afternoon trading, a daily increase of more than 6%.<\/p>\n
The International Energy Agency said this week that oil supplies could exceed demand if there is a durable ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran that keeps the Strait of Hormuz open. It said any surplus would be driven by a 1.1 million-barrel-a-day drop in global oil demand this year.<\/p>\n

The president said he had a change of heart over Iranian leaders because \u201cI got to know them.\u201d He also suggested that leaders who have emerged in Iran after the war began are no longer looking out for the Iranian people.<\/p>\n

He then said, \u201cEverything\u2019s gone,\u201d and remarked on how many of Iran\u2019s leaders were taken out.<\/p>\n

Even before the Iran war, federal authorities have been tracking Iranian threats against Trump for years. The Justice Department in 2024 announced that an Iranian plot to kill Trump before the presidential election had been thwarted.<\/p>\n
