\u201cSo sad to learn of the sudden passing of my friend Lindsey Graham,\u201d Rutte posted online.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe was a powerful advocate for America who believed strongly in the NATO alliance and was actively working to bring an end to Russia\u2019s war against Ukraine.\u201d<\/p>\n
European Commission president von der Leyen said Graham was \u201ca determined and fearless leader. He will be deeply missed.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cSenator Graham fought until the very end to support Ukraine\u2019s fight for freedom and raise the cost of Russia\u2019s war of aggression. He worked tirelessly to strengthen sanctions, in close coordination with the EU,\u201d she wrote.<\/p>\n
The prominent Republican senator, a key ally of President Donald Trump, died on Saturday aged 71 following a \u201cbrief and sudden illness\u201d, his office said.<\/p>\n
