In a wide-ranging conversation, Dimon addressed artificial intelligence risks, stablecoin regulation, housing affordability, and his recent discussion with New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani.

The Wall Street billionaire contended that long-standing ineffective public policies have disadvantaged lower-income families in struggling rural regions and inner cities. He pointed out that affluent individuals do not have to worry about substandard schools or dangerous neighborhoods, whereas those earning less in poor rural or urban areas face poor education, high crime, more divorce, and fewer job opportunities. Dimon stressed that both Democrats and Republicans have enacted policies that failed inner-city communities.

Dimon noted that, overall, Americans have experienced significant improvement from the 1950s through the 2020s, including lower-income groups. However, he admitted there is a systemic flaw, stating he has long spoken about the erosion of the American Dream, especially for lower-paid workers.

According to the Federal Reserve’s Distributional Financial Accounts, wealth in the United States is heavily concentrated. The bottom 50% of households collectively hold $4.27 trillion out of the nation’s roughly $174 trillion in household wealth. By contrast, the top 0.1% of ultra-wealthy individuals control about $25.07 trillion, while those between the 99th and 99.9th percentiles own just under $30 trillion.

 1.
