Vice President JD Vance had an awkward moment trying to get his boss<\/a>, President Donald Trump, on the phone during a rally in Budapest on Tuesday, April 7.<\/p>\n

\u201cI actually had a special guest that asked that I give him a phone call,\u201d the former senator<\/a>, 41, told the crowd, according to a video posted by the Daily Beast<\/a> and other outlets on Tuesday, April 7.<\/p>\n

\u201cLet\u2019s see. Let\u2019s hope he actually answers, or this is going to be very embarrassing,\u201d Vance added, dialing a number.<\/p>\n

After a few seconds of silence, he got an automated message that the recipient\u2019s voicemail box had not been set up.<\/p>\n

\u201cOkay, try one more time,\u201d the vice president said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s ringing. That\u2019s progress,\u201d he said to the crowd. A few more moments of silence followed before he put the call on speakerphone.<\/p>\n

\u201cHello, Mr. President, how are you?\u201d Vance said.<\/p>\n

\u201cHi JD, could you give me a second?\u201d Trump responded, before apparently realizing he was on speakerphone in front of what Vance<\/a> claimed was 5,000 people. \u201cWow.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump then went on to praise Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who is currently up for re-election for a fifth term.<\/p>\n

Vance was in the country to support the campaign for the politician, who has been in power since 2010 and has been described by some critics as a dictator. Polls suggest the opposition party could unseat him, according to the BBC<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The election is scheduled for Sunday, April 12.<\/p>\n
