HUNT VALLEY, Md. (TNND) \u2014 The Supreme Court \u201cjust doesn\u2019t seem to care,\u201d President Donald Trump said Monday.<\/p>\n
He wrote in a social media post<\/a> that its decision on his tariffs, which were invalidated earlier this year, and possible position on birthright citizenship \u2013 a right the administration is targeting \u2013 could harm the U.S.<\/p>\n \u201cThey failed miserably on Tariffs, needlessly costing the USA Hundreds of Billions of Dollars in potential rebates for the benefit haters and scammers. Why??? Don\u2019t do it again!\u201d Trump said on Truth Social. \u201cThe Country can only withstand so many bad decisions from a Court that just doesn\u2019t seem to care.\u201d<\/p>\n The Supreme Court ruled in February that Trump exceeded his authority by setting tariffs <\/a>through the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, a 1977 law on presidential regulation of the economy during crises. Chief Justice John Roberts said in the majority opinion that the president needs congressional approval to impose the import tax.<\/p>\n \u201cRecognizing the taxing power\u2019s unique importance, and having just fought a revolution motivated in large part by \u2018taxation without representation,\u2019 the Framers gave Congress \u2018alone . . . access to the pockets of the people,\u2019\u201d Roberts wrote.<\/p>\n The Supreme Court may also reject Trump\u2019s reinterpretation <\/a>of birthright citizenship, which has been granted to most people born in the U.S. for more than a century. Key justices appeared skeptical on Wednesday, when the administration defended a restrictive executive order on the right, that Trump’s position is in line with the Constitution.<\/p>\n
