{"id":1667,"date":"2026-04-01T12:39:07","date_gmt":"2026-04-01T12:39:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/people\/1667\/"},"modified":"2026-04-01T12:39:07","modified_gmt":"2026-04-01T12:39:07","slug":"us-nuclear-firms-system-could-design-reactors-in-months-and-not-years","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/people\/1667\/","title":{"rendered":"US nuclear firm&#8217;s system could design reactors in months and not years"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Bill Gates-backed nuclear energy startup TerraPower and digital engineering firm SoftServe have unveiled a first-of-its-kind AI-powered platform that can reduce the timeline for advanced nuclear plant development.<\/p>\n<p>By leveraging NVIDIA Omniverse, the companies demonstrated that site-specific engineering work that traditionally takes 18 months can now be completed in as little as eight weeks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe platform reduces design cycles from years to months, accelerating deployment of TerraPower\u2019s Natrium energy plants while improving design and grid integration,\u201d said NVIDIA in a <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.nvidia.com\/blog\/energy-efficiency-ai-factories-grid\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">blog<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Accelerating the clean energy transition<\/p>\n<p>The new platform addresses the industry\u2019s most significant bottleneck, which is the early-stage site engineering and design phase.<\/p>\n<p>By applying cutting-edge digital twin technology, the system allows engineers to analyze thousands of variables simultaneously\u2014a process that previously required years of manual calculation and cross-departmental coordination.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo meet growing power demand, <a href=\"https:\/\/interestingengineering.com\/energy\/terrapower-nuclear-reactor-gets-us-approval\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"dofollow noopener\">advanced nuclear plants<\/a> must move to construction faster, with higher design precision and disciplined execution,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.terrapower.com\/TerraPower-and-SoftServe-Integrate-NVIDIA-Omniverse-to-Speed-Advanced-Nuclear-Energy-Deployment\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">said<\/a> Eric Williams, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at TerraPower.<\/p>\n<p>Williams noted that with the initial Natrium plant design complete, the focus has shifted to using AI to \u201cgreatly improve our speed to market capabilities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Real-time visibility, reduced risk<\/p>\n<p>The platform goes beyond simple digitization. It integrates plant layouts directly into complex geotechnical modeling, grid interconnection analysis, and site-specific optimization. This allows developers to see potential conflicts before construction begins.<\/p>\n<p>Dennis Loktinov, Senior Director of Enterprise Solutions at SoftServe, highlighted the financial implications of this visibility.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNuclear site engineering has always been expensive to get wrong\u2014and until now, teams couldn\u2019t really see the constraints until they were already committed to a layout.
