I said we would clean them up \u2013 and that\u2019s exactly what we\u2019re announcing today.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe days of making easy money out of waste are over. We\u2019re giving authorities the powers to hunt down the people responsible. We will seize their assets and shut their operations down.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese mountains of rubbish have been a clear sign to communities that politics hasn\u2019t been working for them or their area.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added: \u201cThis Government is going to tackle the issues that have been ignored by Westminster for too long and bring back hope.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Clearing up the three new sites is subject to feasibility assessments and they have been prioritised based on scale, risk to nearby communities, environmental damage, and links to persistent non-compliance and organised waste crime.<\/p>\n<p>The package builds on the government\u2019s waste crime action plan, which involved clearing existing sites and stopping the new ones by going after the organised crime networks behind them.<\/p>\n<p>Link between illegal waste sites and organised crime<\/p>\n<p>A new waste crime crackdown group, chaired by <a class=\"ck-custom-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/angela-eagle\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Dame Angela Eagle<\/a>, the Environment Secretary, will also bring regulators and law enforcement together in an effort to dismantle gangs and deliver results.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis isn\u2019t just about people dumping rubbish,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLarge-scale waste sites are fuelled by serious, organised crime, and we need to use the full force of the law to tackle it and root it out at source.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCommunities have been subjected to horrendous conditions and denied the pride they deserve in the places they call home.
