{"id":200364,"date":"2026-08-24T17:34:24","date_gmt":"2026-08-24T17:34:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/people\/200364\/"},"modified":"2026-08-24T17:34:24","modified_gmt":"2026-08-24T17:34:24","slug":"supreme-court-allows-trumps-white-house-ballroom-construction-for-now","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/people\/200364\/","title":{"rendered":"Supreme Court allows Trump&#8217;s White House ballroom construction for now"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Construction of a new ballroom continues  at the White House on August 18, 2026 in Washington, DC. <\/p>\n<p>Win Mcnamee | Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/supreme-court-us\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Supreme Court<\/a> on Friday allowed President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/donald-trump\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Donald Trump<\/a>, for now, to continue construction on his controversial <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/08\/14\/trump-ballroom-supreme-court-white-house.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">White House ballroom<\/a> project.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.supremecourt.gov\/about\/biographies.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Chief Justice John Roberts<\/a>, in an order, stayed a federal district court <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/04\/16\/white-house-ballroom-trump-judge.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">judge<\/a>&#8216;s injunction that had barred Trump from continuing construction while a lawsuit challenging the ballroom project played out. <\/p>\n<p>Roberts&#8217; order came on the same day the injunction was scheduled to take effect.<\/p>\n<p>The order is an administrative stay, which could be lifted by the entire Supreme Court.<\/p>\n<p>Read more CNBC politics and policy coverage<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are grateful for the Decision of the United States Supreme Court,&#8221; Trump said in a post on Truth Social.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Military\/Ballroom Complex being built on the hallowed grounds of the White House, which is so vital for National Security, will be THE GREATEST OF ITS KIND!&#8221; Trump wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., blasted the Supreme Court&#8217;s action in a post on X.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The MAGA Supreme Court is rubber stamping Trump&#8217;s vanity-driven, gilded corruption,&#8221; Schumer wrote. &#8220;As costs skyrocket, the administration is wasting money on an endless and illegal war, corporate giveaways, and Trump&#8217;s pet projects.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8221; Democrats are laser focused on the issues that Americans care about,&#8221; Schumer said. &#8220;We will continue to fight this flagrant waste of taxpayer money relentlessly in the courts.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Trump in 2025 had the White House&#8217;s East Wing demolished, without notifying Congress, to make way for the planned, 90,000 square-foot ballroom, which is projected to cost $400 million or more.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/savingplaces.org\/white-house\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">The National Trust for Historic Preservation<\/a> is suing Trump to block the project on the grounds that Trump did not obtain required authorization or reviews for it.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/preferences\/source?q=https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Choose CNBC as your preferred source on Google and never miss a moment from the most trusted name in business news.<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Construction of a new ballroom continues at the White House on August 18, 2026 in Washington, DC.
