February 27, 2026<\/a><\/p>\nOn May 21, Bonta appeared alongside Ruffalo at a virtual town hall organized by the #BlockTheMerger coalition. Other participants in the Q&A included Javier Bardem, who has been a vocal critic of Israel as well as the merger.<\/p>\n
Goldfeder told Page Six Hollywood over the weekend: \u201cMark Ruffalo told us exactly what this campaign against the Jewish Ellison family is really about: Israel, \u2018genocide\u2019 and \u2018apartheid.\u2019 The attorney general said he was listening. Our California Public Records Act requests will show whether he heard that part too before he filed suit and whether this was antitrust enforcement or state power lent to someone else\u2019s very different grievance.\u201d<\/p>\n
Bonta didn\u2019t respond to a request for comment or to clarify whether or not he shares the actor\u2019s sentiments that entwine Israel and the merger.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
The merger is currently on ice, with a federal trial scheduled for March in Oakland if a settlement can\u2019t be reached.<\/p>\n
Also, the Creative Coalition for Peace\u2019s statement on deplatforming Ruffalo was noteworthy given that the group boasts a number of industry heavyweights among its advisory board including WME\u2019s Rick Rosen, former Paramount chief Sherry Lansing and former co-chairman of NBC Entertainment Ben Silverman, as well as two agents at UTA, where Ruffalo is repped.<\/p>\n
Bonta appears to have enjoyed an open dialogue with the actor about the merger well before his lawsuit was filed. REUTERS<\/p>\n
The org\u2019s statement blasted Ruffalo for rhetoric that has \u201cincreasingly crossed the line from criticism of Israel into extremist and antisemitic messaging,\u201d and called for the actor to \u201cretract these remarks and apologize\u2026 nobody in Hollywood should platform him until he does.\u201d<\/p>\n
CCFP executive director Ari Ingel told Page Six Hollywood of Ruffalo, \u201cHis words have consequences.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ruffalo is a top client of Hollywood agency UTA, and Ingel also referred to a separate, 2025 incident when the LA home of UTA Vice Chairman Jay Sures \u2014 who\u2019s also a University of California regent and an outspoken Israel supporter \u2014 was vandalized by protesters.<\/p>\n
The deal for Warner Bros. is on pause until the legal process plays out. REUTERS<\/p>\n
\u201cOne of the leading agents at [Ruffalo\u2019s] own agency had his house attacked,\u201d Ingel says. \u201cI don\u2019t remember Mark saying, \u2018Attacking the head of my agency is unacceptable. This movement should never be doing things like that.\u2019 I haven\u2019t heard that from him. Wouldn\u2019t that be something?\u201d<\/p>\n
UTA declined to comment on the CCFP\u2019s call to deplatform the actor, either on behalf of the agency or the star.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Back in 2023, UTA dropped Susan Sarandon as a client after she said at a rally, \u201cThere are a lot of people afraid of being Jewish at this time and are getting a taste of what it feels like to be a Muslim in this country.\u201d (Sarandon apologized and called her phrasing \u201ca terrible mistake.\u201d Shani Rosenzweig, who repped Sarandon at the time, is Ruffalo\u2019s point agent.)<\/p>\n
UTA dropped Susan Sarandon in 2023 after her remarks at a pro-Palestine rally. James Keivom<\/p>\n
Ironically, Ruffalo accused Israel of committing \u201cgenocide\u201d in 2021 \u2014 but then apologized and admitted that the claim was \u201cnot accurate,\u201d \u201cinflammatory\u201d and was \u201cbeing used to justify antisemitism.\u201d<\/p>\n
One industry figure mocked Ruffalo\u2019s Saturday tweet in which he cited \u201cthe Jewish friends, colleagues and loved ones who have been integral and family throughout every point of my life.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cHe did the old: \u2018Some of my best friends are Jewish, so therefore I\u2019m not an antisemite,\u2019\u201d the person scoffed. \u201cThat\u2019s not exactly exculpatory, my friend.\u201d<\/p>\n
On the horizon, Ruffalo has a number of high-profile projects already in the can including Apple\u2019s \u201cBeing Heumann,\u201d which will screen as the opening night film at the Toronto Film Festival next month and is expected to be a major contender in the upcoming awards season.<\/p>\n
Ruffalo is set to star in the second season of HBO\u2019s \u201cTask.\u201d Peter Kramer\/HBO<\/p>\n
He also has Lena Dunham\u2019s \u201cGood Sex\u201d at Netflix and Pixar\u2019s \u201cGatto,\u201d both of which are in postproduction.<\/p>\n
HBO also plans to make a Season 2 of \u201cTask\u201d \u2014 which Ruffalo toplines \u2014 as a crossover with the previous Kate Winslet hit, \u201cMare of Easttown.\u201d<\/p>\n
While Ruffalo appears as The Hulk in this summer\u2019s \u201cSpider-Man: Brand New Day\u201d and in the previous \u201cAvengers\u201d movies, the character is not slated to appear in Marvel\u2019s upcoming \u201cAvengers: Doomsday\u201d and \u201cAvengers: Secret Wars\u201d (unless it is a top-secret cameo).<\/p>\n
Ruffalo did almost no press for \u201cSpider-Man: Brand New Day,\u201d which became the biggest movie of the summer.<\/p>\n
On Sunday, Simon Wiesenthal Center CEO Jim Berk praised Paramount for calling Ruffalo\u2019s comments antisemitic.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe commend Paramount for speaking clearly and refusing to allow prejudice to masquerade as political or corporate criticism,\u201d Berk said. \u201cInvoking Israel in an issue where it is completely irrelevant is a textbook case of obsession and demonization.\u201d<\/p>\n
Likewise, Auschwitz Jewish Center Foundation president and director general Jack Simony said: \u201cParamount deserves recognition for confronting antisemitic tropes directly and unequivocally. From the earliest days of Hollywood, Jews working in media have seen their participation recast as control and their success as conspiracy\u2026 Mark Ruffalo simply updated an old accusation for the age of surveillance technology: Israel, a billionaire, secret tools, control of a media empire and a warning that it would all be \u2018used on you.\u2019 Paramount recognized the pattern and refused to normalize it. That is what institutional responsibility looks like.\u201d<\/p>\n

LA Jewish Federation\u00a0president and CEO\u00a0Noah Farkas\u00a0told us regarding Bonta: \u201c[He] has done the right thing on some issues, but his record with Jewish Californians remains mixed. In some important moments, he has failed to stand up with the clarity and urgency our community deserved. This is why it is so important that Bonta clarify what \u2018Mark, I hear you\u2019 means. Hearing legitimate antitrust concerns cannot mean excusing rhetoric that invokes age-old tropes about Jewish wealth, media control and sinister power. Competition matters.
