WASHINGTON (TNND) \u2014 Texas GOP Sen. Ted Cruz said that Republicans are not united around Vice President J.D. Vance to be the 2028 presidential candidate for the party.<\/p>\n

During an interview with MS Now, Cruz was asked if the GOP agreed that Vance should be the nominee to which he responded, \u201cOh, no.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said that there was going to be a full discussion in the party about what the GOP party believes and who should represent them. He said that there isn\u2019t a \u201cNever Trump\u201d section in the GOP anymore.<\/p>\n

\u201cLove him or hate him, you\u2019ve got to acknowledge this guy has a backbone \u2014 he is fearless,\u201d Cruz said, according to The Hill newspaper<\/a>. \u201cAnd there are a lot of Republicans that were so tired of lily-livered Republicans who were afraid of their own shadow. Trump doesn\u2019t hide in the corner. He is ferocious. I like that.\u201d<\/p>\n

In June, Vance made a comment on Megyn Kelly\u2019s show where he said that Cruz is \u201cclearly\u201d running for president.<\/a><\/p>\n

Last year it was reported by USA Today that Cruz was laying the groundwork to run for president in 2028.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cIt’s three and a quarter years (away),\u201d President Donald Trump said when he was asked about the report. \u201cThat’s a long time. \u201cBut he\u2019s a very good guy.
