JPMorgan Chase chief executive Jamie Dimon is personally reaching out to the heads of American companies rapidly adopting AI, Reuters reported citing sources. <\/p>\n
According to the sources, Dimon has contacted chief executives at large banks, regional lenders and technology companies. <\/p>\n
The effort is tied to an expansion of the Alliance for Critical Infrastructure (ACI), a group JPMorgan helped establish. <\/p>\n
The ACI and Dimon have also approached other potential members and are trying to arrange calls in August to discuss possible co-operation, the sources told Reuters. <\/p>\n
The outreach began in July and covers more than 40 companies. <\/p>\n
Those contacted span financial services, energy, water, utilities, telecommunications, airlines, railroads and other critical infrastructure sectors that rely heavily on technology, according to the sources. <\/p>\n
The aim is to develop a common understanding of how AI is being used, the risks it may create and the safeguards that may be needed. <\/p>\n
The initiative is also expected to involve engagement with the Trump administration on those issues, the sources said. <\/p>\n
Dimon, who leads the largest US bank, has been among a relatively small group of chief executives to publicly warn about the risks posed by advanced AI systems. <\/p>\n
JPMorgan was a founding member of the ACI, alongside Mastercard, Berkshire Hathaway Energy and others. <\/p>\n
The organisation was set up to support resilience planning across sectors, share information and respond to threats facing critical infrastructure, including cyber, physical and geopolitical risks. <\/p>\n
A team within the group is also working on refocusing the ACI and expanding its AI-related work, the sources said. <\/p>\n
The ACI has not publicly disclosed any results from the outreach so far. <\/p>\n
Dimon said in a statement that the ACI leadership had seen the need to prioritise AI “years ago and got critical infrastructure companies working \u200ctogether.” <\/p>\n
“We are \u2060proud to support this important work,” Dimon said. <\/p>\n
In a separate statement, the ACI said that “at a time of growing cyber threats, protecting the systems Americans rely on every day requires strong collaboration between \u2060government and critical infrastructure companies.” <\/p>\n
According to the sources, the ACI is intended to act as an industry forum for response and information-sharing. It is expected to work with government officials to identify key AI and technology risks, share information and address issues as they emerge. <\/p>\n
The White House did not immediately respond to Reuters’s request for comment on Dimon’s remarks. Mastercard and Berkshire Hathaway Energy also did not respond to requests for comment. <\/p>\n
