Then they got more expensive and all that. And then after that, I think it\u2019s analogous to when you\u2019re a kid and you never made a penny in your life, you walk down the street, you look on the floor, and you go, \u2018Oh my God. There\u2019s a penny on the floor. I can pick it up and it\u2019s mine.\u2019 Then when you find the second penny, whatever, \u2018That\u2019s good. I did that.\u2019<\/p>\n
Then you find a dime. \u2018Oh my God, there\u2019s a dime.\u2019 And you pick it up and you go, \u2018Wow.\u2019 And then later on you find a dollar, and you go, \u2018Oh, wow, I found a dollar. I\u2019m rich.\u2019 So, how we look at life is all relative. When you climb on top of a mountain, you go, \u2018Wow, I made it.\u2019 Then you look around and there are taller mountains, and you go, \u2018Okay.\u2019 Roll up your sleeves and keep going. That\u2019s really the idea. Keep going.\u201d<\/p>\n
When Meltdown responded that going onstage repeatedly to perform might be an addiction for some, Simmons responded:<\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t like that word. I think it infers negativity \u2014 drug addicts, alcohol and so on. But when you love doing something, I wonder why that\u2019s an addiction. Like you\u2019re a workaholic. Losers say that. You know who the starving people in India and other places in the world who don\u2019t have jobs and are trying to figure out how to feed their families, they can\u2019t imagine anybody would come up with a phrase like, \u2018You\u2019re a workaholic. You\u2019re working too much.\u2019 Too much? Please let me work too much. I\u2019ll give you my firstborn.\u201d<\/p>\n
Simmons continued on, once again sharing his admiration for some of the world\u2019s richest men:<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are entitled and spoiled, and I think I\u2019ve had about enough of that. The most impressive people to me are Buffett and Elon Musk and Bezos. Elon\u2019s worth \u2014 I don\u2019t know \u2014 about a trillion and a half, something like that. What does he do every day? He gets up. He\u2019s planning, he\u2019s doing. He\u2019s planning, for goodness sakes, cities on Mars while the rest of us are complaining about the traffic jam. We\u2019re doing nothing.<\/p>\n
These are people who have higher intellect and a grander vision of life, that you can do big things. And for me, the big thing is \u2014 look, imagine you write a book and you\u2019re really proud of it. You worked hard and then once you\u2019re finished, you put it on a shelf and nobody reads it. Well, you don\u2019t get anything out of it.<\/p>\n
The joy is to have other people read it and comment. Some love it. You\u2019re a painter and you do this amazing painting that you\u2019re really proud of \u2014 and I\u2019ve done some of that myself \u2014 well, if nobody sees it, where\u2019s the joy in that? So writing songs is the same thing, or being in a band. There can\u2019t be a party without you.
