It has a real \u2018ring of power\u2019 dynamic to it and makes people do crazy things. I don\u2019t mean that AGI is the ring itself, but rather the totalizing philosophy of being the one to control AGI.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Altman added that AGI carries significant societal risks and must not be controlled by a small group of companies.<\/p>\n<p>The central issue, he said, is not AGI itself but the concentration of power tied to it. \u201cThe only solution\u2026 is to share the technology broadly, and for no one to have the ring,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He said public institutions must remain more powerful than private companies in determining how AI evolves. While laws and norms will need to adapt, he said the process must remain within democratic systems, even if slower and more complex.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLaws and norms are going to change, but we have to work within the democratic process, even though it will be messy and slower than we\u2019d like.
