Agadir \u2013 A senior Spanish regional official has called for \u201cevident consequences\u201d if a newly reported police assessment linking Moroccan security forces to the mass arrival of migrants in Ceuta is confirmed, just after Spanish Prime Minister Pedro S\u00e1nchez ruled out Moroccan involvement in the crisis.<\/p>\n
Emiliano Garc\u00eda-Page, president of Spain\u2019s Castilla-La Mancha region, said today that the reported findings concerning<\/a> the events of July 30 and 31 were highly significant and raised questions about why Spanish authorities had not previously sought such information from the police or intelligence services.<\/p>\n \u201cIf the information in the police report is confirmed, it must have obvious consequences in all areas,\u201d Garc\u00eda-Page said in a video statement that has since been picked up by converging Spanish media reports.<\/p>\n His comments came after Spanish newspaper El Espa\u00f1ol reported on a National Police intelligence report submitted to National Court Judge Mar\u00eda Tard\u00f3n concerning the mass entry into Ceuta.<\/p>\n According to the report, the National Center for Immigration and Borders (CNIF), a unit within the National Police\u2019s General Commissariat for Foreigners and Borders, attributes<\/a> the planning and execution of the mass entry of around 70,000 people to Moroccan security forces.\u00a0<\/p>\n The report claims that Moroccan gendarmes guided groups toward specific access points into Ceuta, while plainclothes individuals monitored the operation and gave instructions to uniformed officers.\u00a0<\/p>\n It further argues that the migration component may have served as the formal cover for an operation intended to overwhelm Spain\u2019s border-control system and limit its ability to respond.<\/p>\n
