Over the past couple of months, the controversial PayPal and Palantir co-founder has purchased a mansion in the Argentine capital, Buenos Aires, and enrolled his children in school there, sources familiar with Thiel’s plans and Argentine officials told The New York Times<\/a>. He has also met with President Javier Milei and other officials, the sources said.<\/p>\n

The Argentine government is considering offering Thiel permanent residence or citizenship, sources told The Times, though a spokesperson for Milei has denied the claim.<\/p>\n

Thiel has drawn criticism recently over his involvement with Palantir<\/a>, the data-mining company that has assisted with the Trump administration’s recent migrant deportation crackdown<\/a>. A batch of Epstein files released last fall<\/a> included Thiel’s name, leading to additional scrutiny over his alleged relationship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.<\/p>\n

His concerns about the direction of the U.S. reportedly center on California’s potential implementation of a one-time 5% tax on billionaires<\/a>, should the initiative pass the upcoming November ballot. Thiel left the state in 2025 ahead of the Jan. 1 deadline for the proposed tax, the Independent reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Thiel has enjoyed his time in Argentina so far, The Times reported, finding common ground with the country’s president over their shared disdain for taxes, socialism and progressive politics.<\/p>\n

Milei described a recent meeting between the two positively, saying they both view “taxes as theft,” Newsweek reported<\/a>, citing the Buenos Aires Times.<\/p>\n
