WASHINGTON (TNND) \u2014 Vice President JD Vance will address reporters and take questions Thursday during the White House\u2019s first press briefing in 42 days<\/a> following Karoline Leavitt\u2019s departure at the end of August.<\/p>\n

Vance also took the podium twice while Leavitt was on maternity leave over the summer. Leavitt returned to work in June<\/a>, but announced last month that she would leave<\/a> to spend more time with her family.<\/p>\n

No successor has been named, though several names have circulated, including CNN contributor Scott Jennings, Principal Deputy Press Secretary Anna Kelly and White House Communications Director Steven Cheung.<\/p>\n

On her last day as press secretary, Leavitt said the most important thing is understanding that President Donald Trump is \u201chis own best spokesperson.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe joke, Stephen Cheung and me, that he is the true communications director and press secretary here at the White House,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd just understanding that, knowing that, and believing in the mission.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump said in August that Leavitt had made the job \u201cvery glamorous,\u201d prompting an unusually large number of applicants.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve never had so many job applications in my life,\u201d Trump told reporters before boarding Air Force One for a trip to South Carolina, where he was set to attend a campaign rally for Sen.
