{"id":213892,"date":"2026-09-03T22:12:09","date_gmt":"2026-09-03T22:12:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/people\/213892\/"},"modified":"2026-09-03T22:12:09","modified_gmt":"2026-09-03T22:12:09","slug":"green-party-leader-zack-polanski-to-run-for-keir-starmers-seat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/people\/213892\/","title":{"rendered":"Green Party leader Zack Polanski to run for Keir Starmer&#8217;s seat"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The leader of the United Kingdom\u2019s <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/green-party\/\">Green Party<\/a> has announced his intentions to run for the seat in Parliament vacated by former Prime Minister Keir Starmer.<\/p>\n<p>Zack Polanski, leader of the Greens, has led his hard-left party to wild success in the polls as a more extreme and ideologically unorthodox alternative to the mainstream Labour Party. Now, he is seeking to <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/world\/4708454\/keir-starmer-parliament-international-affairs-greens\/\">capture Starmer\u2019s seat<\/a> in the Labour stronghold of Holborn and St Pancras.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have lived and worked in this community over many years, I know it well, and I love it,\u201d he <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.camdennewjournal.co.uk\/article\/exclusive-green-party-leader-zack-polanski-tells-cnj-he-will-go-for-holborn-and-st-pancras\">told<\/a> the Camden New Journal on Thursday. \u201cIt represents so many of the things that make London so special. (AP Photo\/Jon Super)<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe know that the Greens can win here, and by electing me, voters will have someone who will always fight their corner \u2013 never scared of big donors or the party whip,\u201d he continued. \u201cToo often, Labour has stood up for corporations and big money. I will stand up for people struggling to pay their bills.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Starmer is leaving his seat early after stepping down as prime minister, going back on his promise to finish out his term in Parliament.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This by-election could prove treacherous if the Green Party is able to run a successful campaign. Holborn and St Pancras has been a Labour stronghold since 1983, and an upset would shake the unsteady foundation the party has found since elevating Prime Minister Andy Burnham as leader.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Greens thrashed Labour in May when they scooped up local election wins in several major Labour strongholds.
