{"id":218943,"date":"2026-09-07T21:08:17","date_gmt":"2026-09-07T21:08:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/people\/218943\/"},"modified":"2026-09-07T21:08:17","modified_gmt":"2026-09-07T21:08:17","slug":"majority-of-spaniards-unhappy-with-governments-handling-of-ceuta-crisis-poll-shows-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/people\/218943\/","title":{"rendered":"Majority of Spaniards unhappy with government&#8217;s handling of Ceuta crisis, poll shows"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Nearly nine in 10 Spaniards blame <a href=\"https:\/\/www.majorcadailybulletin.com\/tag\/Morocco.html?utm_source=Inline-tag&amp;utm_medium=internal\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Morocco<\/a> for the mass migrant crossings into <a href=\"https:\/\/www.majorcadailybulletin.com\/tag\/Ceuta.html?utm_source=Inline-tag&amp;utm_medium=internal\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ceuta<\/a> in late July, while a majority rate Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez&#8217;s handling of the crisis as &#8220;bad&#8221; or &#8220;very bad&#8221;, according to an opinion poll released on Monday that also showed a drop in support for Sanchez&#8217;s \u200cparty.<\/p>\n<p>The 40dB poll of \u200b2,000 people \u200cfor El Pais newspaper \u200cand radio station SER also recorded an increase in voting intentions for \u200bthe <a href=\"https:\/\/www.majorcadailybulletin.com\/tag\/conservatives.html?utm_source=Inline-tag&amp;utm_medium=internal\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">conservatives<\/a> and the anti-immigration, far-right Vox party, in \u200bline with several other polls \u200cconducted after the deadly border surge into <a href=\"https:\/\/www.majorcadailybulletin.com\/tag\/Spain.html?utm_source=Inline-tag&amp;utm_medium=internal\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Spain<\/a>&#8216;s North African enclave.<\/p>\n<p>For 89% of respondents, Morocco bore the most responsibility for the crisis, followed by human-trafficking groups (75%), \u2060the spread of disinformation on social media (74%), the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.majorcadailybulletin.com\/tag\/Migrants.html?utm_source=Inline-tag&amp;utm_medium=internal\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">migrants<\/a> who \u200bdecided \u200bto cross (73%) \u200cand the Spanish government (72%), the 40dB poll found.<\/p>\n<p>Only 14.2% rated Sanchez&#8217;s handling of the crisis positively, with \u200ctwo-thirds of those surveyed saying his response was too slow. The combined voting intentions for the conservative Partido Popular and Vox hit 50.2%, leading their potential right-wing alliance to \u2060breach the 50% mark \u200cfor the first time in an opinion poll during this legislature. The centre-left bloc fell to 36.1%.<\/p>\n<p>The PP rose to \u200b32.4%, from 32% in \u200cthe \u200cprevious 40dB poll in July, and Vox to 17.8% from 17.2%, while Sanchez&#8217;s Socialist Party dipped to 27.6% from 28%. About 27% of respondents named Vox as the most \u2060capable party \u200bon the issue of immigration, ahead of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.majorcadailybulletin.com\/tag\/Socialists.html?utm_source=Inline-tag&amp;utm_medium=internal\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Socialists<\/a> at 18.4% and \u200bthe PP at 13.9%.
