The push to implement a tax on the richest individuals in the state has spurred a campaign where signatures are valued, with organizers paying $15 each for their collection. This surge in expenses is attributed to the efforts of Brin and other wealthy figures who are contributing to a political group to counter the proposed tax. Foes of the wealth tax are expected to spend $75 million in an attempt to block the proposal. Brin himself has contributed $45 million to the cause.<\/p>\n

Chief Justice John Marshall wrote in 1819 that a corporation is \u201ca mere creature of law.\u201d States hold considerable power in defining the powers they grant to incorporated entities. Also, organizers are currently collecting signatures for a ballot measure in Montana, seeking to capitalize on that authority. Should it pass, the Transparent Election Initiative would strip corporations of the power to spend on elections.<\/p>\n

The Democratic National Committee is debating ways to limit the influence of dark money in future primaries. More Democrats have pledged to reject corporate Pac funding in recent years, which benefits candidates. Voters from both parties are more likely to donate to, vote for, and trust politicians who reject Pac money.<\/p>\n
