Keeping pace with AI can feel like an endless race. Every week brings a new unicorn<\/a>, a new product<\/a>, and a fresh set of CEO prophecies about how the technology will reshape work.\u00a0<\/p>\n

But according to Lisa Su<\/a>, CEO of the nearly $300 billion semiconductor company AMD, there\u2019s no need to get bogged down\u2014it\u2019s all part of the innovation process.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think that\u2019s the point,\u201d Su told Wir<\/a>e<\/a>d<\/a> when asked about AI\u2019s dizzying pace. \u201cWhen technology is good enough, you don\u2019t have to think about it. Today, you still have to think\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

The internet followed a similar trajectory. In the late 1990s and early 2000s, it took a conscious effort to use technology and be more productive. Now, it\u2019s almost second nature and woven seamlessly into everyday life.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s why the 55-year-old argued that the newest technology\u2014AI\u2014should not be judged by what it is today but by where it\u2019s headed.\u00a0<\/p>\n

AMD\u2019s CEO would even \u2018bet on humanity being OK\u2019<\/p>\n

While some leaders\u2014like Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei<\/a> and Ford CEO Jim Farley<\/a>\u2014warn that AI could hollow out Gen Z\u2019s entry-level jobs<\/a>, Su remains unconvinced.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t believe in these cases where you\u2019re not going to need lots and lots of people,\u201d Su said. \u201cBecause in the end, people are the judge of what truth is. We\u2019re still hiring more and more engineers, because they\u2019re the final arbiters of our engineering.\u201d<\/p>\n

For now, AI mostly clears away mundane tasks. It will become \u201cgreat,\u201d in Su\u2019s view, when it starts cracking real, hard problems\u2014such as meaningful advances in healthcare, not just productivity tweaks.<\/p>\n

Will humanity be able to keep up? Su pointed out to Wired that the same fear was expressed during the industrial revolution\u2014and the world managed to adapt.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know. I would bet on humanity being OK.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fortune reached out to AMD for comment.<\/p>\n

Tech leaders are divided on how AI will impact the workforce\u2014and the world<\/p>\n

While the pace of AI can feel like it\u2019s headed down a doomsday scenario, the likes of \u201cThe Terminator,\u201d Su isn\u2019t alone in leveling that the world isn\u2019t in peril.<\/p>\n

In fact, Su\u2019s distant relative<\/a>\u2014and fellow chips competitor\u2014Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang<\/a> is bullish that humanity will always come up with new ideas and the world will keep turning.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know why AI companies are trying to scare us. We should advance the technology safely just as we advance cars safely. \u2026 But scaring people goes too far,\u201d Huang said to Axios<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Moreover, OpenAI Sam Altman expressed last week<\/a> that being a young person today must feel like you\u2019re the \u201cluckiest kid in all of history,\u201d considering the new era that AI will bring to the world.<\/p>\n

However, this hope for a \u201cgolden era<\/a>\u201d of humanity is more fiction than fact, according to Mo Gawdat<\/a>, the former chief business officer for Google<\/a> X<\/a>. Promises that AI will create more new jobs is \u201c100% crap,\u201d he said\u2014and CEOs themselves may need to watch their back.<\/p>\n

\u201cCEOs are celebrating that they can now get rid of people and have productivity gains and cost reductions because AI can do that job. The one thing they don\u2019t think of is AI will replace them too,\u201d Gawdat said on The Diary of a CEO podca<\/a>s<\/a>t<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cAGI is going to be better at everything than humans, including being a CEO.
