Finland\u2019s president to visit Canada as Ottawa pushes deeper Arctic, defence ties<\/p>\n

Ottawa: Finnish President Alexander Stubb will visit Ottawa from April 14 to 15 for talks with Prime Minister Mark Carney, marking their first formal bilateral meeting.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe visit comes as Canada seeks to strengthen ties with Nordic partners amid growing geopolitical uncertainty, with discussions set to focus on defence, trade, technology, energy and Arctic cooperation.<\/p>\n

\n\t\tOfficials said the two leaders will explore expanded collaboration in areas including maritime security, critical minerals, aerospace, artificial intelligence and quantum technologies, as well as satellite and cyber communications in the Arctic.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe trip builds on Carney\u2019s recent engagement with Nordic countries and reflects a broader push by Ottawa to diversify trade partnerships and deepen cooperation with like-minded allies.<\/p>\n

\n\tCanada and Finland have strengthened relations in recent years, including a 2025 joint statement on foreign and security policy aimed at enhancing strategic coordination. Bilateral merchandise trade between the two countries was valued at C$2.4 billion last year.<\/p>\n

\n\tCarney said he looked forward to hosting Stubb to advance cooperation and promote \u201cstability, security and prosperity\u201d for both countries.<\/p>\n
