Congress has to take that power back,\u201d McGarvey said.McGarvey also criticized President Donald Trump\u2019s comments about Pope Leo XIV.In response, Louisville Archbishop Shelton Fabre said in a statement:&#8221;I stand in solidarity with the Holy Father as he speaks out against war and speaks truth about the gospel with the mission to bring people closer to God. As the Vicar of Christ, Pope Leo XIV will continue to advocate for peace, spread the message of hope, and pray for a conversion of hearts. Let us pray for peace in our world, for our military, and for victims of war.&#8221;McGarvey called the president\u2019s actions \u201cblasphemous.\u201d\u201cThe president attacked the pope. He put a picture of himself as Jesus. Then he lied about it after he took it down. It\u2019s the exact opposite teachings of the Bible,\u201d McGarvey said.He also said the conflict has pushed gas prices higher and is affecting workers.\u201cThe president\u2019s war of choice has gas in Louisville at $4.29 right now and people are struggling. We want to make sure TSA workers have what they need to get by,\u201d McGarvey said.Congress is also set to resume its fight over a partially shut-down Department of Homeland Security, which has ordered thousands of furloughed employees back to work.\u201cPay our TSA workers, pay our Coast Guard, pay FEMA. But we\u2019re not going to give you money to ICE right now based on what they\u2019re doing right now,\u201d McGarvey said.At the Smoketown Community Center, McGarvey said the visit was a chance to highlight the work of the community.\u201cTo come and highlight the work of their team and the volunteers in this community who are lifting up our kids and making sure they\u2019re successful. I think it\u2019s really important,\u201d McGarvey said.\u201cToday, they\u2019ve understood a little bit about his job, which is awesome, and anytime you can understand your elected officials&#8217; responsibilities and holding them accountable to those responsibilities is awesome,\u201d said Lynn Rippy, president and CEO of Blueprint 502.McGarvey also said members of Congress accused of sexual misconduct should resign or be expelled. This comment came before California Rep. Eric Swalwell and Texas Rep.
