But now, scientists are turning it into something surprising food ingredients like proteins and fats. Using clean electricity and microbes, labs can reuse carbon dioxide to make useful nutrients. This could reduce pressure on farms, animals, and natural resources.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"word-break:break-word;text-align:left;white-space:pre-line\">Still, one big question remains: will people feel comfortable eating food made from what was once considered pollution?<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"word-break:break-word;text-align:left;white-space:pre-line\">A startup making butter without milk<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1240\" height=\"744\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/people\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/6621_1776080181.jpg\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"f97587ba\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"word-break:break-word;text-align:left;white-space:pre-line\">A California-based company called Savor, supported by Bill Gates, says it has created butter without using any dairy at all. Instead of milk, the company uses carbon dioxide from the air. Through a special thermochemical process, they turn it into fats that look, feel, and taste like real butter.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"word-break:break-word;text-align:left;white-space:pre-line\">How the process works<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"word-break:break-word;text-align:left;white-space:pre-line\">Savor combines carbon dioxide with hydrogen and oxygen and applies heat to build fat molecules similar to those found in dairy products.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1155\" height=\"644\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/people\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/image_1776080365.png\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"f97587ba\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"word-break:break-word;text-align:left;white-space:pre-line\">This method avoids the need for:<\/p>\n<p>Animal farmingFertilizersHormonesAntibiotics<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"word-break:break-word;text-align:left;white-space:pre-line\">In simple terms, the company starts with carbon dioxide and transforms it into the same types of fats people already enjoy in everyday foods.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"word-break:break-word;text-align:left;white-space:pre-line\">A big win for the environment<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"word-break:break-word;text-align:left;white-space:pre-line\">Traditional butter production creates a large amount of greenhouse gases. According to Bill Gates, the world releases about 51 billion tons of greenhouse gases each year and fats and oils from plants and animals make up around 7% of that.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"word-break:break-word;text-align:left;white-space:pre-line\">Savor\u2019s butter has a carbon footprint of less than 0.8 grams of CO\u2082 per kilogram, compared to 16.9 kilograms for regular butter. That\u2019s a huge difference and could help fight climate change.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"word-break:break-word;text-align:left;white-space:pre-line\">Not in stores yet<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"word-break:break-word;text-align:left;white-space:pre-line\">Even though the results are promising, Savor\u2019s butter is not available for sale yet. The company is still waiting for regulatory approval before launching it in the market.
