Ivanka Trump admitted her gilded life as President Donald Trump\u2019s eldest daughter has come with a lonely price, revealing she\u2019s been forced to remain intensely \u201cguarded\u201d and has struggled to maintain close friendships while growing up in the lap of luxury, Wonderwall.com<\/a> can report.<\/p>\n

The 44-year-old businesswoman \u2014 a former fashion designer and executive vice president at the Trump Organization who also worked as a senior advisor to the president during his first term \u2014 made the confession on a recent episode of the \u201cDiary of a CEO\u201d podcast, explaining how her childhood pain has followed her own kids as they\u2019ve grown up in the spotlight.<\/p>\n

Ivanka worries about people liking her for the \u2018wrong reasons\u2019\"Ivanka<\/p>\n

\u201cI grew up the child of wealthy and accomplished parents. And so I do think there\u2019s like, a natural barrier that goes up,\u201d Ivanka said of her real estate developer dad and late socialite mother, Ivana Trump, who were the symbols of 1980s money and success.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019re worried about people, especially when you\u2019re a kid, liking you for the wrong reasons,\u201d she noted.<\/p>\n

\u201cI see this now with my son. You know, he wants to be loved by his friends, and I appreciate that. That\u2019s good for who he is, not for who we are, and certainly not for what we have,\u201d Ivanka shared. She didn\u2019t indicate if she was talking about Joseph Kushner, 12, or Theodore Kushner, 10, her sons with husband Jared Kushner, 45. (The couple also has a daughter, Arabella Kushner, 14.)<\/p>\n

\u201cI do think being the child of famous parents and living such a privileged life, I had this guard, and that guard served me really well for a long time,\u201d the first daughter explained.<\/p>\n

However, she explained, that meant \u201cI didn\u2019t have any friends.\u201d Amid the \u201creally tumultuous life that I\u2019ve had, ups and downs,\u201d she added, there were people \u201cwho really disappointed me.\u201d<\/p>\n

She said she was referring to \u201cclose, close friends who didn\u2019t show up for me or who changed because of my circumstances or what was happening around me,\u201d although Ivanka didn\u2019t say whether she was referring to losing friends after her father\u2019s controversial pivot into Republican politics and his subsequent White House runs.<\/p>\n

Ivanka spoke about building \u201cwalls\u201d only to realize that \u201cthey don\u2019t serve you,\u201d and realizing that the only way to have a true human connection is through \u201ctrust,\u201d which doesn\u2019t come easily to her.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo I have to trust people. Now I have a good radar. I\u2019m not foolish. I think I\u2019m a very good read[er] of people, and I think it\u2019s one of my strengths, and I think it\u2019s why I haven\u2019t been surprised by a lot of people,\u201d the New York native said of her intuition and perceptiveness.<\/p>\n

To prevent herself from growing too \u201ccynical,\u201d Ivanka said she\u2019s \u201ctaught myself to be more trusting,\u201d even though she\u2019s aware she might get hurt in the process.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd to the extent that means periodically, I\u2019ll be burned, like, I\u2019m OK with that trade-off because I think it will lead to more meaningful connections in my life,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n
