So, it turns out that within the Democratic Party, there\u2019s a white woman named Haley who should\u2019ve been named Karen, because, seriously \u2014 is there a bigger congressional Karen on the Democratic side than Rep. Haley Stevens?<\/p>\n
Because y\u2019all know that\u2019s what this is all about, right? Stevens got primaried<\/a> by Michigan\u2019s Democratic Senate nominee, Dr. Abdul El-Sayed, and now she\u2019s endorsing his Republican opponent, Rep. Mike Rogers, as part of a big old temper tantrum over El-Sayed basically telling her: You can\u2019t sit with us anymore.<\/p>\n For those who are unaware, Stevens, who, up until this past weekend, had been fierce in blasting Rogers as a misogynist who would serve as \u201canother rubber stamp for Donald Trump\u2019s dangerous agenda, announced Sunday that she would be endorsing that MAGA-fied rubber stamp instead of her party\u2019s nominee.<\/p>\n This, of course, did not go over well with congressional Democrats or her own staff, more than half of whom walked out on her<\/a> after she released a video announcing her crossing of the political aisle.<\/p>\n Even Democratic centrists like Sen. Chuck Schumer and Rep. Nancy Pelosi were none too pleased.<\/p>\n Schumer called it a \u201cdangerous betrayal,\u201d Pelosi accused Stevens of choosing \u201cto dangerously betray Michigan families\u2019 healthcare, freedoms and future with her horrific endorsement of Mike Rogers,\u201d and Michigan Democratic Party Chair Curtis Hertel said flat-out that \u201cStevens is not a current member of the Michigan Democratic Party, nor will she be in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n Now, according to The New York Times<\/a>, Stevens was preparing to make an appearance at a unity event alongside El-Sayed, but after she issued a statement Friday morning<\/a>, calling for El-Sayed to denounce podcaster Hasan Piker and his Rebellion PAC ad, the Democratic nominee responded by saying he\u2019d rather she sit the event out.<\/p>\n Now, Stevens is out here trying to convince her party \u2014 and maybe herself \u2014 that she endorsed Rogers because of El-Sayed\u2019s association with Piker and his stances against U.S. funding for Israel, but it reeeeally seems like she\u2019s just salty about getting uninvited to El-Sayed\u2019s cookout.<\/p>\n \u201cAbdul made very clear that I was not welcome in his campaign, that he didn\u2019t need me there, that he didn\u2019t want me there,\u201d Stevens said Sunday, while standing next to her enemy\u2019s enemy, whom she has clearly made her friend. \u201cI did endorse the Democratic nominee, and he chose to close this campaign by saying I wasn\u2019t welcome. I\u2019ve never been invited to a campaign event. That\u2019s fine. You know, he\u2019s busy. He\u2019s running all around.\u201d<\/p>\n Ain\u2019t that white women in progressive circles in a nutshell? All it took was for El-Sayed to curve her just once, and Stevens went from this\u2026<\/p>\n To this\u2026<\/p>\n Then came her interview with\u00a0 CNN\u2019s Anderson Cooper, which was so frustrating to watch that even Cooper was basically like, \u201cSis, please be for real.\u201d<\/p>\n During the interview, Cooper told Stevens that fellow Democratic congresswoman Michigan Rep. Debbie Dingell said she had spoken to her at midnight and that Stevens said then that she was not going to endorse Rogers.<\/p>\n \u201cIf that is true, what changed between then and this morning?\u201d Cooper asked.<\/p>\n It was a very simple question, which Stevens was intent on not answering.<\/p>\n \u201cI woke up this morning clear-eyed, fresh and focused on what was in my heart and that\u2019s that,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n \u201cHe just doesn\u2019t have me and a few other people who love this party. Nothing with me changed, Anderson.\u201d Stevens went on to say, after rambling in a way that really made it seem like she was just stalling until she came up with a plausible answer, which she never did.<\/p>\n \u201cThis is about Abdul getting angrier and angrier and saying, \u2018I don\u2019t want these people in my campaign,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n \u201cBut he didn\u2019t get angrier from midnight last night to this morning,\u201d Cooper responded. \u201cSomething changed your mind.\u201d<\/p>\n Stevens also brought up Piker and El-Sayed\u2019s stance on Israel while she was trying to find an answer that didn\u2019t make her sound like she was making it all up as she went along, but she kept circling back to being disinvited to his campaign trail, and clocking that as El-Sayed being \u201cangry\u201d and unkind. Then she had the caucasity to tell Cooper, \u201cIt sounds like you\u2019re upset with me, too, Anderson.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cNo, I\u2019m really not. You\u2019re not really answering any of my questions. So it\u2019s somewhat frustrating,\u201d he responded.<\/p>\n \u201cAnderson, I was just trying to help this campaign and stand up for people who feel hurt,\u201d she said. \u201cI am not the only one in this position. I am just casting my vote.\u201d<\/p>\n What does that even mean?<\/p>\n Mind you, this white woman decided that because El-Sayed is angry and mean because he didn\u2019t want her around, she would endorse a man who has joined the rest of the GOP and President Donald Trump<\/a> in making his entire platform and political personality about xenophobic and Islamophobic fearmongering.<\/p>\n So, as a woman, Stevens was fiercely against Rogers, especially due to his anti-choice stance<\/a>, but as a white woman, she\u2019s willing to endorse an anti-abortion white nationalist because the Muslim guy told her no.<\/p>\n Sad, but not surprising.<\/p>\n SEE ALSO:<\/p>\n The True Power Of Black Voters Lies In Down-Ballot Races<\/a><\/p>\n
