FRANKFURT, April 18 (Reuters) – Mediators have failed to resolve a dispute between the companies involved in the \u200cFranco-German FCAS fighter jet project, though political leaders still \u200chave scope to intervene, Handelsblatt reported on Saturday.<\/p>\n
Citing people familiar with the \u200btalks, the newspaper said the mediators – one from France and one from Germany – would submit separate reports on their efforts.<\/p>\n
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz is to be briefed on the status of \u200cthe dispute over the \u2060weekend and plans to decide by Tuesday on Germany’s position, the paper added.<\/p>\n
Merz is set \u2060to meet French President Emmanuel Macron at the informal European Union summit in Cyprus on Thursday and Friday next week, it \u200badded.<\/p>\n
The crisis-hit \u200bFCAS fighter jet project has \u200bbeen stalled by a \u200cprotracted dispute over control between France’s Dassault Aviation and Airbus, which represents Germany and Spain in the 100-billion-euro project.<\/p>\n
The head of Dassault Aviation said on April 1 he was giving his company two to three weeks to see whether a deal \u200ccould be reached on the air \u200bcombat system.<\/p>\n
Late last month, Merz said \u200bhe was doing everything \u200bin his power to salvage the programme \u200cand that two mediators had been \u200bappointed to \u200bovercome differences.<\/p>\n
An Airbus Group spokesperson in France declined to comment. The German government, the French presidency and Dassault did \u200bnot immediately respond \u200cto requests for comment.<\/p>\n
