Jeff Bezos is close to finishing a $10 billion funding round<\/a> for his AI lab, Project Prometheus, which would value the company at $38 billion, the Financial Times reports. JPMorgan<\/a> and BlackRock<\/a> are among the investors. Once completed, this round will bring total funding to more than $16 billion, including $6.2 billion raised at the company\u2019s November 2025 launch.<\/p>\n

Jeff Bezos and Vikram \u201cVik\u201d Bajaj started Project Prometheus in San Francisco in November 2025, and both serve as co-CEOs. Bajaj holds a PhD in physical chemistry from MIT and led ambitious projects at Google X, including early work on Wing and Waymo<\/a>. He also co-founded Alphabet\u2019s Verily and the AI drug discovery company Xaira Therapeutics. <\/p>\n

Prometheus is building physical AI<\/a> by training models on real-world experimental data, robotics interactions, and engineering workflows, rather than just text. The company is focusing on areas like aerospace, automotive, advanced manufacturing, and drug discovery.<\/p>\n

To boost its technical capabilities, Prometheus acquired the agentic AI startup General Agents, co-founded by former DeepMind researcher Sherjil Ozair. The company has also hired researchers from OpenAI<\/a>, xAI<\/a>, Meta<\/a>, and Dee<\/a>p<\/a>Mind<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Prometheus is joining a fast-growing industry: Periodic Labs has raised $300 million<\/a> to build robot-run research facilities, while Figure AI is making progress in humanoid robotics<\/a>. Elon Musk has called Bezos a \u201ccopycat\u201d because of similarities with xAI\u2019s focus on the physical world. Still, Prometheus stands out for its science-driven leadership and unique data strategy.<\/p>\n

In addition, Bezos is said to be seeking up to $100 billion to create a holding company to acquire industrial businesses affected by AI. The aim is to use their operational data in Prometheus\u2019s models.
