{"id":39467,"date":"2026-04-23T10:35:09","date_gmt":"2026-04-23T10:35:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/people\/39467\/"},"modified":"2026-04-23T10:35:09","modified_gmt":"2026-04-23T10:35:09","slug":"apple-investor-new-ceo-should-follow-steve-jobs-advice-for-tim-cook","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/people\/39467\/","title":{"rendered":"Apple Investor: New CEO Should Follow Steve Jobs&#8217; Advice for Tim Cook"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The new guy who&#8217;s soon to be in charge at Apple has big shoes to fill, and he can&#8217;t follow in his predecessors&#8217; footsteps.<\/p>\n<p>\n                          Loading audio narration&#8230;\n                        <\/p>\n<p>Longtime Apple investor and NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Fran Tarkenton told Business Insider that Apple&#8217;s incoming CEO should follow the advice Steve Jobs once gave his successor, Tim Cook.<\/p>\n<p>Jobs encouraged Cook, who was better known for his operational prowess than as a product visionary, to do things his own way when he became CEO in 2011.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He said to Tim Cook, When you&#8217;ve got to make a decision, don&#8217;t say to yourself, what would Steve Jobs do? You do what you think is the best thing for the company,&#8221; Tarkenton said.<\/p>\n<p>Cook previously spoke about Jobs&#8217; words at a <a target=\"_self\" class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/steve-jobs-to-tim-cook-dont-do-what-i-would-do-just-do-whats-right-2011-10\" data-track-click=\"{&quot;element_name&quot;:&quot;body_link&quot;,&quot;event&quot;:&quot;tout_click&quot;,&quot;index&quot;:&quot;bi_value_unassigned&quot;,&quot;product_field&quot;:&quot;bi_value_unassigned&quot;}\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">2011 memorial tribute<\/a>, Bloomberg reported.<\/p>\n<p>John Ternus, Apple&#8217;s senior vice president of hardware engineering, is set to succeed Tim Cook as CEO in September. His hardware background marks a return to the <a target=\"_self\" class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/new-apple-ceo-john-ternus-challenges-ai-talent-new-products-2026-4\" data-track-click=\"{&quot;element_name&quot;:&quot;body_link&quot;,&quot;event&quot;:&quot;tout_click&quot;,&quot;index&quot;:&quot;bi_value_unassigned&quot;,&quot;product_field&quot;:&quot;bi_value_unassigned&quot;}\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">product-focused leadership of Jobs&#8217; era<\/a>,\u00a0rather than\u00a0Cook&#8217;s focus on services and chips made by Apple.<\/p>\n<p>Ternus is &#8220;the right guy at the right time,&#8221; Tarkenton said. The eyes of the tech industry are on Apple to deliver its next big innovation or make a meaningful move in the AI arms race.<\/p>\n<p>Tarkenton said Cook has been &#8220;terrific&#8221;\u00a0for Apple\u00a0and has grown its\u00a0services business into a behemoth that outpaces some of its products in revenue. But, he said, Ternus has to rely on his 25 years of experience at Apple to be successful.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He cannot be Tim Cook,&#8221; Tarkenton said.<\/p>\n<p>Tarkenton, a <a target=\"_self\" class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/fran-tarkenton-apple-stock-outlook-tim-cook-succession-2025-12\" data-track-click=\"{&quot;element_name&quot;:&quot;body_link&quot;,&quot;event&quot;:&quot;tout_click&quot;,&quot;index&quot;:&quot;bi_value_unassigned&quot;,&quot;product_field&quot;:&quot;bi_value_unassigned&quot;}\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Minnesota Vikings legend<\/a> who earned most of his wealth after leaving the league, said he began investing in Apple around 2015 after researching the company. He&#8217;s owned hundreds of thousands of shares, according to records previously viewed by Business Insider. And he&#8217;s as bullish on the stock as ever.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;ve never sold any of the stock, and I reinvest the dividends every quarter,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Ternus has worked at Apple since 2001. Tarkenton said his insiders at Apple started whispering Ternus&#8217;s name as a potential successor five years ago. As recently as last month, Cook brushed off rumors that he would be stepping back from his duties anytime soon, telling &#8220;<a target=\"_blank\" class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.goodmorningamerica.com\/culture\/story\/tim-cook-talks-apples-50th-anniversary-future-ai-131137939\" data-track-click=\"{&quot;click_type&quot;:&quot;other&quot;,&quot;element_name&quot;:&quot;body_link&quot;,&quot;event&quot;:&quot;outbound_click&quot;}\" rel=\" nofollow noopener\">Good Morning America<\/a>&#8221; that he couldn&#8217;t imagine his life without Apple.
