Prime Minister Viktor Orb\u00e1n said Hungary must remain outside both the war in Ukraine and its financial consequences, emphasizing the need for national unity and experienced leadership, at a campaign rally in Szombathely.<\/p>\n
Speaking on Savaria Square during the final phase of the election campaign, Prime Minister Orb\u00e1n stated that Hungary has upheld its key commitment over the past four years. \u201cWe did not give our sons, we did not give money, and we did not give weapons,\u201d he said, adding that Hungary is \u201cthe only country in Europe that has stayed out of the war.\u201d<\/p>\n
He warned that upcoming decisions will determine whether Hungarian resources are directed domestically or toward Ukraine. \u201cWe must decide whether Hungarian money goes to Szombathely or to Donetsk,\u201d he said, referring to European Union plans to finance Ukraine through joint borrowing. According to him, a pro-Ukraine government would impose long-term financial burdens on Hungarian families.<\/p>\n
Prime Minister Orb\u00e1n also highlighted domestic achievements, particularly in family policy. \u201cIf there are children, there is a future,\u201d he said, noting that Hungary has introduced lifetime income tax exemption for mothers with at least two children, calling it a globally unique measure.<\/p>\n
Looking ahead, he described the next four years as challenging, citing the ongoing war, pressure from Brussels, and a potential energy crisis linked to conflicts in the Middle East. \u201cUnder these circumstances, we cannot afford a pro-Ukraine government instead of a national government,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n
He emphasized that Hungary has repeatedly demonstrated its ability to defend its sovereignty. \u201cIn 1989 we said no to the Soviets, in 2015 to migration, in 2022 to Brussels, and in 2026 we will say no to the Ukrainians,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
