Representative Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL<\/a>) confirmed in comments to reporters that Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) will not pass the SAVE America Act, a bill that President Donald Trump<\/a> has heavily pushed the Senate to pass.<\/p>\n

Rep. Luna previously spoke in favor of the SAVE America Act in February<\/a>, viciously condemning Democratic opposition to the bill by saying, “My colleagues are spending a lot of time lecturing the American people on how this is going to require you to show your papers.” She noted that Democrats are acting against the interests of their own voters, affirming that the SAVE America Act is overwhelmingly popular.<\/p>\n

The Trump<\/a> White House similarly touted the bill’s popularity in March<\/a>, saying, “This legislation enjoys overwhelming support from the American people \u2014 yet Radical Left Democrat politicians continue to obstruct it, choosing partisan power plays over national security and the will of the people.”<\/p>\n

Despite passing the House, the SAVE America Act has stalled in the Senate.<\/p>\n

“I confronted Thune on the floor yesterday, when the King spoke, about the SAVE America [Act], and [Thune] is not going to do the SAVE America [Act],” the Florida congresswoman said, referring to the recent visit<\/a> and address of King Charles III to Congress.<\/p>\n

Luna reportedly asked Thune if the Senate would advance voter identification as a standalone bill, “but they won’t put voter ID on a standalone here,” so Republicans will have to try a different means of getting it through.<\/p>\n

She further emphasized that she “does not want them to kill it.”<\/p>\n
