Just, you know, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/business\/digital\/amazon-job-cuts-remove-bureaucracy-1236486942\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">not from a job standpoint<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tOn Wednesday, The Wall Street Journal <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/business\/media\/amazon-discusses-apprentice-rebootwith-don-jr-as-a-potential-host-fe09e885\" data-type=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/business\/media\/amazon-discusses-apprentice-rebootwith-don-jr-as-a-potential-host-fe09e885\" target=\"_blank\">reported<\/a> that Amazon MGM Studios executives were \u201cdiscussing\u201d a potential reboot of The Apprentice, one of the earliest reality-competition series to break into our zeitgeist. The format is most remembered, of course, as the platform that brought <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/donald-trump\/\" id=\"auto-tag_donald-trump_1\" data-tag=\"donald-trump\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Donald Trump<\/a> to our living rooms; The Apprentice, which guaranteed the winner a high-paying job in the Trump organization, humanized its host and reestablished the former real-estate tycoon as a household name. Its success and our celebrity culture inadvertently made Trump a viable candidate for president of the United States, a role he\u2019s now held twice \u2014 for those who still go by the old rules, the 22nd amendment says that\u2019s the limit.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tWith Trump in the nation\u2019s top office through noon ET on Jan. 20, 2029 (and please God not a minute more), a new Apprentice would need a new host. Martha Stewart, who led a spinoff season following her 2004 release from prison, is not the answer. Nor is Arnold Schwarzenegger, who took over The Celebrity Apprentice when Trump was fired for comments he made about Mexican immigrants.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cThe U.S. has become a dumping ground for everybody else\u2019s problems,\u201d Trump said in 2014 in announcing his bid for the Oval Office. \u201cAnd these aren\u2019t the best and the finest. When Mexico sends its people, they\u2019re not sending their best\u2026they\u2019re sending people that have lots of problems\u2026they\u2019re bringing drugs, they\u2019re bringing crime. They\u2019re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tAnd the rest, unfortunately, is U.S. history.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe WSJ reported that one of the leading candidates to host a new version of The Apprentice is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/donald-trump-jr\/\" id=\"auto-tag_donald-trump-jr_1\" data-tag=\"donald-trump-jr\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Donald Trump Jr.<\/a>, though that was apparently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/news\/politics-news\/donald-trump-jr-the-apprentice-reboot-host-amazon-1236581037\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">news to him<\/a>. A person close to Trump Jr. tells The Hollywood Reporter that the president\u2019s son was not aware he was being considered and only learned about it from reading the report. Dad\u2019s a bit more up on things, or so he says. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cI\u2019ve been hearing it,\u201d Trump said when asked about the news, \u201cLook, we\u2019ve had a great success, 14 seasons, and\u00a0The Apprentice\u00a0was a tremendous success, so I\u2019ve been hearing that, a little bit. So we\u2019ll see what happens.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tAs for Don Jr., his eldest son, taking over as host, Trump said it was \u201cprobably\u201d a good choice. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t(Admittedly, it makes some sense. The rotten apple didn\u2019t fall far from the tree here.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cHe\u2019s good, he\u2019s a good guy, he\u2019s probably good, he\u2019s got a little charisma going, you need a little charisma for this, so we\u2019ll see what happens,\u201d Sr. said of Jr. \u201cYeah, they told me about it, we\u2019ll see.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tOK, so that\u2019s not exactly a ringing endorsement \u2014 but it sure as hell isn\u2019t going to be Eric.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tAn Amazon spokesperson\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-news\/amazon-potential-apprentice-reboot-trump-1236580630\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">told<\/a>\u00a0THR\u00a0on Wednesday, \u201cSince our acquisition of MGM, we have had preliminary internal discussions about what\u2019s next for\u00a0The Apprentice\u00a0as a property. To that I say, sure, find a very full-time role for all the Trump kids: Don Jr., Eric, Ivanka, Tiffany, Barron, Jared Kushner, J.D. Vance.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tAmazon has a $3 trillion company market cap \u2014 it can absorb this. Amazon has already been working overtime \u2014 and overspending \u2014 in what sure as hell looks like an effort to curry favor with the President. In 2024, the company spent $40 million to distribute the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-reviews\/melania-review-brett-ratner-melania-trump-documentary-1236489604\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-reviews\/melania-review-brett-ratner-melania-trump-documentary-1236489604\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">critically-destroyed documentary Melania<\/a>, which followed the first lady over the first weeks of her husband\u2019s second term. Melania Trump personally pocketed roughly $30 million of the check, the WSJ reported, and Amazon paid more than 3x the doc\u2019s next-highest offer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tCut a few more checks and put the whole damn administration on holding deals through 2028. Better yet, 2032. I\u2019ll even do the ideating for you: Secretary of War Pete Hegseth (Fox &amp; Friends Weekend) gets an entire platform for his post-Fox News era. It\u2019s worked for Bill O\u2019Reilly, Tucker Carlson and Sean Hannity.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tSecretary of Transportation Sean Duffy was on The Real World: Boston. Throw him on Beast Games or some shit.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tRobert Kennedy Jr. gets some Bear Grylls-esque outdoorsman show where he performs penectomies on all sorts of nocturnal mammals. His wife Cheryl Hines can act, so that\u2019s a potential twofer right there. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tLinda McMahon cannot act, but she\u2019s sure been forced to try in some ridiculous soap-opera storylines on WWE programming. Trump\u2019s Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, Scott Turner, played nine seasons in the NFL \u2014 get that man in the booth for Prime Video\u2019s Thursday Night Football. Even Secretary of Energy Chris Wright\u2019s official White House bio boasts he\u2019s \u201chad multiple appearances\u00a0on network TV, documentaries, and podcasts.\u201d Surely you could find a use for him since he\u2019s not doing shit about gas prices anyway.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tListen, enough commas and this could actually work. Each of them already spends their days jockeying for 45\/47\u2019s attention and affection, and the only thing the Trump family patriarch values as much as power is TV ratings.
